I’m trying something new for this podcast, an interview. The interview was recorded using Skype and HotRecorder.

Will has been a friend for about two years now and each week I visit him and his crew (shoutouts to ChrisK and EddyC) at his office to chat about business things and life in general. I hope you enjoy this interview.

Will manages Marketing-Results.com.au.

Will has presented seminars on international marketing and online marketing for the Queensland Premier’s Department and the Queensland Department of Primary Industries.

Another podcast I’d like to hear but don’t have the time for. I don’t commute and have no idle time where I could listen to audiocasts. I’m also unable to listen and do anything else at the same time. What should people like me do? Also, audiocasts can’t be scanned like a text, I can’t skip parts that don’t interests me.

There’s a need. I hope someone will come up very soon with a way to transform audiocasts into text, or find a way to make podcasts better scannable.

    Hi Ben,

That’s a shame you can’t find 20 minutes in your day to listen to the audio, or even listen to it while doing other tasks online – that is what I do.

However I do agree it would be good to offer transcripts for download as well and it would be nice if some software could do it automatically.

    Hi Yaro,

there’re quite a lot audiocasts already available, so it’s not just your 20 minutes. The thing is: audio is purely sequential, it doesn’t allow me to make a quick scan over the whole content to see if this could be useful for me. At least it would be nice to have some written preview of the audio.

I don’t mean to say I don’t like audiocasts. They do add a personal note. But I think they’re clearly limited. Well, until solid speech recognition is possible, but this is going to take a while.

    Hi Yaro,

Great “Skypecast”. The sound quality seemed even better than your previous podcast recorded on your iRiver. Did you notice that?

About Ben’s comments — companies like iDictate will convert audio files to text documents for US$0.00125. I think that a service like this could allow you to quickly and cheaply provide exactly what Ben wants.

Anyway, great work and I look forward to talking to you in the future.

    Hi Dane,

Thanks for the comments, I didn’t notice too much difference in the quality, I’ve been quite happy with either my iRiver, using AudioBlog or HotRecorder with Skype. Actually with HotRecorder it records in stereo which when the bitrate is at 64kb you can hear one voice come from the left speaker and the other the right – it’s as if you are standing inbetween the two people in the interview which is quite neat. Unfortunately to get it online in stereo would mean nearly doubling the size of the MP3 and AudioBlog automatically drops the bitrate down to 32 when I upload it. I think for the time being mono with a smaller file size is appropriate.

I had a look at iDictate, it seems like a standard transcription service. The price starts at 1.5c PER WORD which is too cost prohibitive to offer transcripts of my podcasts. Maybe one day, but certainly not today!

    Hi Rory,

Hehe, you know if search engines indexed audio as well as text and all my readers/listeners were like you I might just do that. It is slightly easier to say an entry rather than write one, but as you can see from some other comments not everyone shares your preference for audio.

I am with you. I would much rather listen to pod casts and hence I am here. I plan on starting to go in that direction myself moving forward as I think video and pod casting is the future and frankly it is much easier than typing

[...] Presently Will Swayne and his team from Marketing-Results.com.au are completing the finishing touches on a BetterEdit.com website redesign, which is aimed to simplify, streamline and automate the suspect -> prospect -> conversion sales process. With BetterEdit turning it’s focus to only students the new mantra is “Get Better Grades” and the sales copy will be clean and simple so that international students with English as a second language face as little resistance as possible learning about and using our services. Hopefully the new site will go live in a few weeks so we can start testing and tweaking. [...]

[...] These are the guys providing the materials – Jay Abraham, Ken McCarthy, Perry Marshall and Brad Fallon – and the material comes from a Special Seminar on The Dynamics of Internet Marketing in 2005 that they did together recently. Now to be honest I don’t know and have never heard of Ken, but I know Jay Abraham (he’s at the top of the marketing gurus hierarchy – my mate Will Swayne would have Jay’s baby he loves the guy so much), Brad Fallon (top of the search engine optimization tree – I read his stuff and have done some of his courses too) and of course Perry, the expert in AdWords and the main reason why I signed up for this deal – to get his updated AdWords e-book.
