Skype $3 billion dollar sellout?

Skype Journal: Skype $3 billion dollar sellout? Is there a real story here? Robert X. Cringely adds to the rumor mill by reporting that Skype was almost sold last week for $3 billion to Rupert Murdoch who just bought MySpace for an extraordinary sum.

$3 billion dollars. That’s an insane amount of money. Is Skype worth that much? What role can we foresee Skype playing in the future of telecommunications?

These are hard questions to answer. We are a long way off from mainstream adoption of IP telephony as a replacement for the current system. But when it happens will a service like Skype reap financial rewards significant enough to justify a price that high. We can only speculate.

No way!!! 3 Billion really? Who developed this software Skype? I personally use it to contact family abroad but the quality has a long way to go before its worth 3 Bil!!
For that price I would expect also live video feed while having a conversation or two.
I guess Mr Murdoch knows what his doing!!

3 billion is a lot for Skype but it may be worth that after the buggs are worked out and new option are added I guess. Sounds a bit high still.
