Entrepreneur Heroes Trading Cards

This week in the mail I received a package with some cool contents –

Entrepreneur Heroes Trading Cards

These are Entrepreneur Heroes trading cards, created by Evan Carmichael, an entrepreneur from my other home, Toronto Canada.

When I was a teenager, for a couple of years collecting basketball cards became a huge craze in Australia. I wasn’t into basketball so much, nor do I like to go along with the crowd, however I did like collecting things, so I was intrigued by the idea of collectible cards.

On a trip to Toronto around this time I went into a card store and bought some baseball cards, and so began my first foray into collecting cards (I always liked baseball better anyway). This eventually led to finding Magic: The Gathering, a collectible card game I began playing, which became the focus of my first profitable website. In many ways, my online business all began thanks to trading cards.

Evan invited 33 bloggers to nominate their favorite entrepreneur to feature on one of the cards. Many of my picks were taken already by other bloggers, so I went with Milton Hershey as my favorite entrepreneur.

I read Hershey’s biography, which is a fascinating story, and as a chocolate lover, he came to mind as a good – if slightly unorthodox choice – for my entrepreneur trading card.

Here I am with “my” card (Milton on the front) -

Profits Go To Kiva

The main reason I am happy to support this project is that profits from sales of the trading cards go to Kiva, an organization that supports entrepreneurs in less developed countries by providing micro-loans.

If you’d like to pick up some cards yourself, you can order them from here – Entrepreneur Heroes Trading Cards.

I Have Five Packs To Give Away

I’ve been given five packs of entrepreneur trading cards to give away to my readers. They are the sealed black packs you can see at the bottom of the photo at the start of this article containing a random assortment of entrepreneur trading cards.

If you’d like one of the packs, all you have to do write a blog post linking to this article and the Entrepreneur Heroes Trading Card page – http://www.evancarmichael.com/Heroes/.

Once you do that, send me an email to support@blogmastermind.com with a link to your blog post and your mailing address to send the cards to.

The first five people to do this based on the email timestamp at my end will receive the cards.

Thanks to Evan for launching this great idea for charity!

    Hey Yaro,

Nice Post man. Entrepreneur Heroes Trading cards are really awesome. Last month i won the entrepreneur trading card of Steve … !! and it’s simply awesome.
I will blog about it very soon.

Thanks for sharing this great Post man.

  3. 3

Well, those are rather slick! I’m not going to enter the contest because I think some others would enjoy these more than me, but I have to admit, I like the idea.

    Hey Yaro,

I’ve been following this blog for quite some time now, but this is actually the first time that I put a comment. I always visit this site and I really find your posts very valuable and helpful. Will definitely keep on checking this blog out for your future posts, and I hope that I can contribute to this blog someday.

    Regards,

    Gary

As always, great information! I just wonder why you chose Milton to be with in the picture… we should launch a poll and see which is the most popular entrepreneur… I’m confident Jobs would get high marks!

    • 6

Yes I would interested in hear more about Milton Hershey too. I also love my chocolate, but I know nothing about the man behind the brand. Perhaps your blog should periodically feature a different entrepreneur that we can all learn from.

  6. 7

Hey… i think u should add at least 1 Video in ur post, in this way your post will become more attractive.

    • 8

I think that is a bit demanding Shawn. Adding at least one video in every post significantly increases the time and work required to get each post up. I think video is best used in moderation unless you are in a niche where video is very important.

    • 9

I agree with you. Showing in a video of all the trading cards will be perfect for this post.

  7. 10

That’s a brilliant idea, I can’t get through to the site right now; probably high traffic. If he would have asked me I would have picked Chris Blackwell, the founder of Island Records and the guy who brought Bob Marley to the world. I’ll try again to see who else they feature.

  8. 11

Glad they arrived safely and you enjoy them Yaro! Great pick with Milton Hershey as well – not someone that usually comes to mind when you think about successful entrepreneurs but he has a fantastic story!

Thanks again for your help with this project – it’s much appreciated!

  9. 12

Felix Dennis is my favorite entrepreneur. His book “how to get rich” is a fantastic mix of business advice, life skills, and straight talk. It was much much better than I thought it was going to be. I will look into Milton Hershey.

  10. 13

I did like to write a rave review about this stuff… but I bet the slot already been taken… anyway… I love cards too… I’m also a Magic: The Gathering card collector… Although it’s been a long time since I play that… I still have my albums and decks kept in a box in my store room….

If I’m not wrong my time… the most expensive card is the “Black Lotus” which I have 3 piece kept safely in binder….

  11. 14

Wow that’s pretty cool. What a great idea, and it is for a good cause. Neat, who thought this up?

  12. 15

These entrepreneur trading cards are a great idea. I first heard of them on another blog a little while back. It’s cool that you had a hand in choosing one of the entrepreneurs to feature. I’m sure most people choose modern day entrepreneurs, particularly in the IT industry. So good job also giving credit to an older businessman.

  13. 16

Yea this is so awesome…especially for all of us trading card FREAKS!! ha ha ahhh….anyways I hope I am one of the top 5 I think I was the second person to actually write a post Yaro. Thanks

  14. 17

This is such a great idea. There are so many experts out there that people need to know about. I think this could be a great idea for many different niches. Sports figures are not just the only people that should be looked-up to.

I can just picture it now… a whole line of grandmother cards, fire fighters, other things like that.

LOVE the idea of these cards
and all the money raised going to
    charity

    Matt :)

  16. 19

    Hi Yaro,

Fantastic concept. Love the entrepreneurial world. It’s great to make money but it’s even greater people give back.

    Cheers

    Jann

This also reminded me of the time when I was into collecting Marvel trading cards 15 or so years ago.

This is very creative and it’s mission to help other people makes it even cooler.

  18. 21

my first impression was that this idea was pretty silly, but its really not a bad concept at all. congrats.

  19. 22

Ahh I remember the good old trading card days… in fact I still think I have a few from when I was younger.

    It’s certainly an interesting concept.

  20. 23

this is super cool! Even better, it’s helping to support KIVA.

  21. 24

Look in the library and online to find books that can tell you how much each card is worth. If you think you have some very rare cards, you could find an appraiser to tell you how much they believe they are worth…

    • 25

I think you missed the point of these trading cards. Obviously they are not made to be some valuable collector’s item. In many years they might happen to be worth something, but for now it is just a way to promote entrepreneurialship and help a great cause.

  22. 27

I think this could be a great idea for many different niches. Sports figures are not just the only people that should be looked-up to…

  23. 28

This is pretty cool lol. Even though the guy on the card being held looks like Lenin. Do these come with an info pack? It would be good to learn about not so famous successful people.

  24. 29

Those are pretty sweet, and the fact that the proceeds are going to charity makes it even better.

  25. 30

They look great… and for charity too… excellent idea Evan.

  26. 31

    Great idea!!

Just wanted to add that your blog is very informative.

    Great work Yaro

  27. 32

I read a bit about KIVA last night, and learning about their activities, I now have great respect for what they do.
I’m now more impressed by this trading cards project.

    • 33

Yes Kiva is quite the impressive service. The concept of helping out struggling entrepreneurs is great. Not everyone has the ability to just walk into a bank and get funding for their business. These micro-loans can be a lifesaver for people who’s business’ might not survive otherwise. When I get some extra cash I will definitely look into using some to help out people though kiva.

  28. 34

Good one Yaro, these are bound to become collectibles in the future. How many entrants have you had so far?

  29. 35

It is really difficult to tell about something like that. It depends so much on the condition. Look for similar ones on ebay and see what they are selling for and that will give you an idea.

  30. 36

Sounds interesting to have trading cards under our name. But, of course this is for heroes like you. We are still too far to reach there.

  31. 37

That’s awesome how Kiva is helping entrepreneurs in Africa with micro-lending through these trading cards!

  32. 38

Yea this is so awesome…especially for all of us trading card FREAKS!! ha ha ahhh….anyways I hope I am one of the top 5 I think I was the second person to actually write a post Yaro. Thanks

  33. 39

Trading cards hold a lot of sentimental value for people, but it is only very rarely that you get one that will make you any money. So do it for the fun of it and not the big bucks!
