It appears you are not alone. Here is a little spoof on the traditional long sales page that I know many of you will find enjoyable.

Just another example of people getting creative, offering amusement to others. I wonder if I should donate for the sake of I found it entertaining?
Good find and so true. Just shows you that you don’t have to offer a ton of great content to make some money on the web. Million Dollar Home page did it and this guy will probably make a good chunk of change.
Aloha,
E
Oh so painfully true. I love it.
There are so many lengthy sales letters around these days, that I got both impatient and bored with the linked article so I came out after the first couple of paragraphs despite the entertaining content.
To answer the question ‘Do You Hate Long Sales Letters?’ my response has to be a definite yes.
I think they come across as ‘desperate’, as little freebies and treats are thrown in along the way to keep the visitors attention, as his eyes journey down the page.
They’re quite clever because if they have you half-way interested in the product or service, there’s the urgency to ACT NOW! While the offer still lasts, which most probably compels the vulnerable to purchase on the spot.
WARNING!!! Note some of these deadlines and then check back in a day or 2 after that deadline has passed! Guess what? The same ‘24 hour sale’, or ‘offer ends at midnight tonight etc etc is still part of today’s sales pitch in many of these promotions.
I’m not saying that all those that write longwinded sales letters are out to con the reader or that the products or services they promote are no good, but it’s probably fair to say that most of them are written in a way that misleads the potential customer into panic buying. It’s only when the buyer calms down and reflects on his rash decision that he can really judge his spontaneous act.
That’s my take for what it’s worth.
Cheers
Aitch
Yaro,
According the the late Corey Rudle….a sales letter should be 12 pages (approx twelve screens that you would scroll down).
I guess he said that the longer the letter the better it performed.
Why is stuff online so weird like that? First its long sales copy..than its webpages that look like absolute garbage (you know what I’m talking about…those vanilla websites with the big header and sales copy…ewww, but damn they work).
I am not a fan, but I doubt that that will stop me from split testing their use when I finish writing my book to see how well I can sell it.
Very amusing, thanks Yaro.
Ah but they do work, otherwise they would not still be being used.
I have a few observations at http://www.plusone.com.au/diary/archives/119
I am the author of the clickhereyouidiot site. Thanks for the kind comments so far.
>>Note some of these deadlines and then check back in a day or 2 after that deadline has passed!
Aitch, I have a limited time offer on my page too. It’s a shame you didn’t get around to reading it.
And now that you’ve had enough time to make any purchase a non-panic one, click the Paypal button at the bottom of my page at your absolute leisure. Don’t rush, don’t hurry, take your time but do it! My special offer will be there for you at a time and date of your convenience. It’s OK to resist the temptation to not panic buy but don’t resist the temptation to click the paypal button. You know it makes sense.
They definitely work if done well. The hard thing about finding these things on the web is you are not sure if they are working or not. Anyone can post a sales letter online, and it sits there forever.
Offline, you should always study the junk mail you get over and over again. Those few are working, or they wouldn’t spend the money to keep sending it.
Keep your eye on those for ideas.
I think the design of the sales letter could be done in an innovative manner. Have quotes presented in a more graphical way. Highlight the content. Make the bullets look more interesting.
As much as the copy could be as interesting as it is, instances of design helps freshen the eyes up abit.

An example I implemented myself.
Cheers.
I can’t wait for the “fad” of creating sites like these disappear. That is, unless they actually work…
