Audio: Building Blog Traffic Discussion With Darren Rowse

Darren RowseI have a treat for you podcast listeners today - a discussion on blog traffic building with Darren Rowse, the Problogger. In this episode of the Entrepreneur’s Journey podcast Darren and I talk about how he got so much traffic to his big income earning blogs like his Digital Photography Blog, why you really shouldn’t start your own digital photography blog and why you should start a Canon camera blog instead. Darren mentions some techniques he uses to keep bringing in traffic that the big corporate sites can’t do for legal reasons, we talk about following trends and how the first mover who covers a trend in the blogosphere can get the big traffic gains and what Darren is planning in 2006.

There’s also some brief Yaro ramblings in there too, which I promise ties in with the overall theme of the podcast…eventually.

Enjoy!

[…] Check out this podcast from two of my favorite savvy solopreneurs, Yaro Starak and Darren Rowse, on how to increase traffic to your blog. Darren gets in excess of 5k visitors per day to his Problogger site, and Yaro recently surpassed the 1k visitor-per-day mark on his Entrepreneur’s Journey site. I’d say they might know what they’re talking about. […]

Great interview Yaro! I’m constantly wondering if its better to launch new sites on a new domain or to launch them on a sub domain. It was great to hear Daren’s take.

Thanks fpr the interesting interview. My I just point out that 24kHz is not compatible and does not play on my version of winamp. Use 22 or 44.1 kHz and a better windshield. 32 kbps normally is o.k. but it sounded strange.

Hi Markus - thanks for the feedback on the sounds quality. I keep playing with it to get a good file size/quality ratio, but it can be tricky.

Strange though that it didn’t play on winamp for you. I use winamp too and it worked fine for me.

Thanks Mike. Unfortunately Steve is a busy and focused guy so he hasn’t been willing to do a podcast interview so far. Maybe if a mainstream media outlet approached him he may see value in that interview because he could reach so many people.

Great Cast Yaro.

But one request:
Can you publish your webcast with a higher volume.

I like to listen to them in the train and even at highest volume of my mp3 player i can’t understand some of the casts.

Thanks in advance.

I’ve started to register separate domains for my blogs. So far it seems to be working out quite well. Setting up a hosting reseller account is a great solution when you have 10 or more domains.

I’ve been catching up on all your Podcasts Yaro, and I was really looking forward to this one as Problogger was how I found your site. As soon as I started listening I realised I had heard it before. This podcast was how I found your site!

It’s been interesting listening to it the second time, as I know you a bit better now from reading your blog and listening to your other podcasts. It’s obviously the same information, but it seems different somehow.

Anyway I thought you may be interested in the trail I took to find your site:

1. A random message on a yahoo group directed me to stevepavlina.com

2. One of Steve’s posts linked to Problogger because Darren had written something about him.

3. Darren wrote a post mentioning this podcast.

4. After numerous mentions of Michael Pollock I decided to investigate his SavvySolo cast.

Interestingly I both investigated and subscribed to Steve’s, Darren’s, and your sites straight away. But Michael’s took several mentions before I looked at his site, and then a few more mentions before I finally decided to subscribe.

I guess Michael isn’t as sticky as the rest of you.

Hi Alan,

Thanks for your comments and the breakdown trail. It really is interesting how you can find websites on the Internet. It shows that in order to be found you really need to have links all over the place and preferably on other sites that are good at being found :)

[…] Yaro Starak, a small business, somewhat humble (which is cool) blog evangelist dude with big hair did a podcast of Darren Rose AKA problogger in December. Darren makes an interesting point about how if you have a niche blog where you review products (and get word on a new item) and blog about it first, you have a major advantage over big corporations who get bogged down with legal restrictions. He also talks about his photolog but it looks to me like he might not be having the same level of success with it today? Look for yourself by running your SEOlinks cursor over the URLs… Darren Rose, podcast, Problogger, seo, Yaro Starak Social bookmark this page […]
