I woke up sick this morning. I feel fine, but I was targeted by The Indie Virus, which as the creator of this virus, Chris Pearson, states, is “The Virus You Want to Catch”.
It seems everyone is playing with all kinds of traffic techniques lately and The Indie Virus is another I’ve decided to go along with. Here are the instructions:
Participating in The Indie Virus is easy. All you’ve got to do is link to lesser known blogs from within a post (or two, or eleventeen), but you have to make sure that the anchor text of your link is The Indie Virus. This is critical, because in order to track the experiment, I’ll be searching for the phrase “The indie Virus” on common engines like Technorati, Google, and Yahoo! Oh, and also, make sure that you link directly to a post WITH A TRACKBACK and not to the site itself - it speaks louder!
From pearsonified
I’m sending the virus to Cesar Gonzalez’s blog, Flee The Cube (Indie Virus Sent) because I like that he’s writing about entrepreneurship and appears to have the same perspective as I do (plus I’m returning some link love). I suspect many of my readers will like his work.
I’m also infecting my friend Erik Vossman with the Indie Virus, who’s blog is Can You Become Good at Everything? (Indie Virus Sent) . I’ve enjoyed Erik’s writing for a while because he does absolutely massive articles, some as big as mine! His best work is his rolling commentaries on the state of Internet business topics like monetization and blogging (etc.), all topics that are interesting to me and you will probably like as well.
Check out these good blogs and if you feel like it, post links to some other blogs you enjoy and spread The Indie Virus. Hopefully Erik and Cesar will pass on the virus too.

Maybe I am missing something, but weren’t you supposed to use “The Indie Virus” as the anchor text for “Flee the Cube” and “Can You Become Good at Everything?”
[…] Today I caught the Indie Virus from Yaro over at Entrepreneur’s Journey. I have to say, if there were more viruses like this going around, the blogosphere would be a better place. The spike in traffic is nice, but the fascinating part was tracking how the Indie Virus has spread since it started one week ago. […]
Blaine - I don’t think you are missing anything, maybe I was. I found the instructions a bit confusing and I thought as long as I had anchor text with “the indie virus” somewhere in my post it would register in technorati. Anyway I went in and threw in a few more indie virus links so it definitely should be good now.
Do a search for it on technorati and you can see it really is starting to spread. I hope the slightly confusing instructions don’t hinder it’s progress.
[…] Now, lots of other people are promoting the idea. […]
[…] From Tucson, Arizona to Boston Massachusetts I couldn’t get away from the Indie Virus. I, along with a good friend of mine were recently “infected” with the Indie Virus from one of our favorite bloggers Yaro Starak. It appears a young man by the name of Chris pearson passed on the indie virus to Yaro and he was paying it forward to Cesar and I. Thanks for that. […]
[…] Info here. […]
Hey Yaro,
To make it less confusing, here’s a tutorial: http://irishwonder.com/blog/2006/03/20/the-indie-virus-tutorial/
Cheers
[…] The Indie Virus is a type of Viral marketing… the brain child of Chris Pearson who apparently started the Virus about a week ago… Gave it to this Yaro guy => Cesar => John Scott => me - That’s how I tracked it back to it’s source or the “original Indie Virus” post… […]
