How To Make Money With Blogs + AdSense – Free E-Book

***Update***

This post is intended as a recommendation for anyone interested in a free ebook on beginner AdSense tips. In order to download this free ebook you must opt-in to a pre-launch email list for an AdSense templates product to be released in July by Joel Comm and Eric Holmlund. Since I have not seen this product I cannot endorse it, nor is this post meant to be an endorsement of Joel Comm or Eric Holmlund. I just reckon the content in the free ebook is worth reading if you want to improve your AdSense performance. I’m sorry if I have confused anyone with my intentions regarding this post.

******

Blogging and Google AdSenseThis is for beginners only – if you are new to blogging and making money with AdSense and want a short and simple introduction to the topic Joel Comm, author of The AdSense Code, has made available a free e-book on the topic called Blogging and Google AdSense.

The book covers the major blogging system options – Blogger, WordPress and MovableType – and then goes through the best ways to implement the Google AdSense code for maximum return. You get a short and simple introduction on where the best locations to place AdSense code on a blog are and a discussion of a couple of the best WordPress plugins for managing AdSense.

Note if you already have studied AdSense or are an experienced AdSense blogger this information won’t be anything new to you, but if you are a beginner this is a quick study to get the basics covered. I actually learnt something too because I wasn’t familiar with the AdSense deluxe plugin for WordPress which looks like a pretty sweet tool for managing AdSense on a WordPress blog (I love plugins!).

How To Get The Free E-Book

To get the free e-book you need to join Joel’s pre-launch list for a new product he is launching on July 5th called Instant AdSense Templates.

Yes the free ebook is a tempter to get you on to the list but as per usual you can unsubscribe if you have no interest in AdSense website templates. It’s worth it for the free book and if you are a serious AdSense user the templates may be useful for you once they become available in July – you are not obligated to buy them, but if you do you better be putting out some good content into those templates – you know how we feel about AdSense spam sites around here! :-)

    Hey Yaro,
Nice find, although I wouldn’t classify myself as an Adsense beginner, it will be definitely useful to see if I’ve missed out on any big techniques that could be implemented to raise income.

I use the Adsense deluxe plugin, and it’s awesome! All you have to do is click a button and your adsense is on the page! I would recommend it to all using WordPress.

  2. 2

Finally a book for newbs! :P Although I think the key to success with blogging is traffic. For traffic you need good content (like this post)… Then AdSense makes sence.

P.s. Installing the plugin right away! Never knew it excisted.

  3. 3

A free ebook, that is very generous! His advice about placing ads above or below pictures could get people into trouble.

  4. 4

So far pictures below or above the ads have not been violently disapproved by Google – I got this ‘clue’ from Michael Cheney’s Adsense course.

  5. 5

Wow! Yaro.. I always respected you to a great extent. But to see the comments that I (and Duncan Riley) left deleted? Seriously? Just because I called you out and asked you a legitimate question? That’s pretty lame. As I’m sure this comment will be mysteriously deleted as well… 8 comments… moderated down to 5… strange? I think not. How lame.

  6. 6

Derrick – I wrote out a reply to your last response, realized that it wasn’t going to further conversation at all because essentially we all agree on the main point – that we don’t want to see more spam sites built to capitalize on AdSense without contributing any quality content.

Were we may disagree is that you believe a post like this encourages people to be spammers and should not be posted – is that correct?

I deleted the comment stream started by Duncan because I wasn’t happy with Duncan’s accusations that Joel Comm is associated with spam site builders. He’s quite right – reputations can be destroyed quite quickly and it’s through posts like he made that it happens. I don’t think it’s fair for comments such as those to remain on my blog (as I said if Duncan wants to show proof that Joel did what he said he did that’s a different story). Once I deleted the original comment the rest of our conversation was off so I removed the full stream.

I’m happy to continue discussing this issue, but can you please do two things for me – clarify exactly what you are calling me out on and what is the question you have, without implicating any other people.

  7. 7

I am an adsense (or more specifically adwords) newbie so will check it out even though it’s the other half of the coin. Have really liked the free Perry Marshall stuff so far…

  8. 8

What ever happened to people actually coming up with creative ideas for online services that actually help people?

There seems to be a huge shift towards selling information — or blogging with adsense as a means to make money — what happened to all the original thoughts?

This web 2.0 is a real shame — what happened to web 1.0′s zest and punch of creativity…and simplicity?

    Anyway just my two cents…

I was a little disappointed with my experience with Joel. His “The Adsense Code” pitch includes a bunch of “bonus” offers. Well, these “bonuses” are just a bunch of free stuff that is available without purchasing the book. These types of tactics are disingenuous and make me wonder about his operations as a whole. I emailed Joel regarding these practices and he has yet to respond. Note, when you promote and associate with people who use these tactics, you diminish your own credibility.

  10. 10

Sounds like Joel may have lost you as a customer then Brian?

Why don’t you ask for a refund?

  11. 11

    Yaro
got to say I really can’t believe that not only did you delete my comment (wonder how much longer this one will stay up for?) but you didn’t even email me to let me know. You’re flogging made for Adsense sites and the fact you can’t realise it says it all for me unfortunately, and I think you’ve not only let me down, but most of your readers as well. I’ll respond later today on my blog (Where you cant delete it), but so long, and thanks for all the spam.

  12. 12

Joel Comm is the king of adsense info. I bought his book “The Adsense Code”, and I learnt so much just from that one book, and it was only about $20 (with over 200 pages I might add)

    Shane
in March 2005, for an Adsense book which I also bought at the time, before we knew he was in bed with spam bloggers, and selling “made for Adsense” crappy spam sites with Yaro’s help.

  15. 15

Shane – I actually promoted a resource that Joel wrote – not Joel himself….

I’ll repost a comment I left on Duncan’s post because I think it’s got some relevance here too:

I havn’t really looked into Joel’s latest product. I was approached to promote it but my first impression was that it wasn’t where I’m at as a blogger.

I have linked to (with aff links) two of Joels products previously – both of which I’ve recommended (with qualifications). Both help publishers get the most out of AdSense and Chitika and speak of generally accepted techniques for increasing their performance. I’ve linked to them with the qualification that they are really aimed at beginners and not advanced users.

My first impression of Joel’s new product is that it looks a little spammy. I doubt it’s his intention for them to be used that way but I’ve little doubt that they will be used by some who buy them for those purposes.

It’s always difficult when working out what to recommend. I come across many blogging tools that could be used for good or evil – you just have to look at how people use Blogger.com or even WP to see that… but some are perhaps more ready made to be abused than others and in those cases I tend to steer clear of them.

I don’t have any issues with Joel personally – we’ve exchanged some great emails over the last year or two – but some of his products are a better fit than others for me I guess.

    ….

I stand by my recommendation of Joel’s AdSense book in the link Shane provided above – it is a good introduction to using AdSense. However just because I recomend one resource doesn’t mean I endorse other products he’s written or the partners he works with on them.

  16. 16

Joel hasn’t lost me as a customer, yet. I’m not disappointed with the product I bought, just some of the tactics he uses, and I wanted to let you know because the network effect can impact you negatively as well as positively.

  17. 17

Referring to Mike, it’s generous giving away a free book, yes, but it serves Joel well too. He will be perceived as more trusted, and people will be more likely to feel comfortable making a purchase decision. On the other hand, there is so much good free information out there – if you can be bothered searching and sifting through the dross, you don’t need to purchase much if anything to be an Internet success. My free eBook, http://www.InternetMillionaireEbook.com explains the basics of marketing online, but it also introduces readers to one of my other businesses. Nothing is free (without advertising!) in this world! It’s just about reading as much as you can, then making an educated decision.

I signed up for the adsense and never got your book, which is why I signed up.

Hi I missed the pre launch of Joel Comm’s “getting started with blogging and adsense” ebook do you know how can I download a copy?

    Thank you

  21. 21

Sorry Raye, no idea what Joel is doing now – no doubt you could probably find it for free by doing a web search. This is probably not the only promotion he did where he gave away that book.

  22. 22

    Hi Yaro -

You are undoubtedly aware of Joel Comm’s latest Monthly Adsense venture. Anyway, even if they are/were quality sites, I don’t see how anyone “legit” could get 50 or so sites indexed and ranking enough during a month in order to get any type of Adsense income. Google doesn’t even index links on pages with PR3 or lower, and still others will be placed into “supplemental hell.” They will never get enough traffic, no matter how many sites you have, if they’re not indexed properly. So it seems like creating endless Adsense sites – whether we call them spam or not – is a futile effort.

Please share some ideas on how to get more traffic to my blog. I’ve started making money but I’m hungary for more.

  25. 25

you know, adsense plug ins such as adsense delux never worked for me. i get a much better click through rate simply by adding adsense code to my sidebar as a text widget….makes the ads look like a menu as opposed to ads. I think it also helps to get a hold of some really nice adsense ready wordpress themes like these: Adsense Ready Themes for WordPress

lastly, skyscrapper adds do better for me then those giant square ones….the font on those skyscrapper ads tend to stand out more….

    but that’s just my experience

  26. 26

do you have e-book for paid review programs ?… I’m looking for that…
oh ya, do you know how to be not penalized for google pagerank but still productive for paid review program

    Hi Yaro,

thanks for all the inspiring posts I´m a regular reader of your blog.
Since I write a blog myself, I was wondering, if you could list all the wordpress-Plugins you use to bring advertisings in your blogposts, rss feed, etc.
I know of UBD, but that doesn´t bring an ad into the rss feed like “this post was brought to you by”
or promote a product of yourself underneath each post in the rss reader.

Maybe this could be an interesting post for all your readers?
Thanks for your help in advance

      Christian,

I list key plug-ins to my BlogMastermind.com students and that’s where I’m concentrating my blog training advice at the moment.

If I have time in the future I may publish the info here on the blog, but I’m not sure.

thank you for useful information about adsense.it will help me to make some extra money from adsense
