It’s necessary to give to the visitor things (information, services, …) which he is interested in and in a form he understands. To find out what is he interested in, what is he missing, what he doesn’t understand and all this by asking him and communicating with him. (or her).

Imagine, that you as a information provider are at one side of the river and you have questions. On the other side of the river is your visitor and has questions as well. But you are not hearing each other and therefore you have to build a bridge to meet and to talk.

It’s not anything difficult. Just have a chat on your website and communicate with your visitors from time to time. Ask them what they miss, what they didn’t find, ...

Anybody can add a chat to the website. There are many chat services that are easy to install. It’s up to you to choose one you like the most. Find out more about this in my article here.

Great article. I agree that first impressions really do count, especially to the well trained web-surfer eye. I see so many crappy sites and immediately leave knowing that if they don't know how to make a good impression they don't know the basics.

I think I agree with Dan. This article is like publishing an article in a food magazine for "How to get people to return to your restaurant."

1. Make sure the food is excellent.
2. Pick a good location.
3. Create an atmosphere that people enjoy.
3. Focus on service.

Very cool. I rarely hear about branding as being important in this game, but it makes me think I should take a better look at some of my designs. Thanks!

[...] As some of you may know. Today was a fantastic day for me. Not only did I go and watch the tennis at Wimbledon and was spotted on TV (I was on a close-up!), I got linked to by Yaro Starak’s site Entrepreneur’s Journey. I wrote an article for him about Getting More Return Visitors to your site. The article went up yesterday in front of a subscribership of about 1500 people and Alexa ranking of 21,000 which is extremely good. [...]

Dan, while you may feel that I have not written anything new, there are still some people that may overlook a few of these ways to increase return visitors. Either that or many fail to implement them into their business plans. I felt that it was important to let everyone know the basics, and then from there, it will be easier to introduce better techniques.

Thanks for your comment anyway.

Thanks for your comments Terry, Luke and Michael.

Retaining readers is probably one of the hardest aspects of blogging. Its easy to get a quick flurry of visitors one day, and then close to none the next. Trying to maintain a steady stream of visitors is something that all of us bloggers strive to achieve: constant posting and maintaining good relations can help this.

Glad you liked the post!
