I've seen so many people jump into teaching internet marketing that haven't made any money online... it's sad that others follow them and look to them for advice.

When I started out online I was into the fitness niche because that's what I have previous experience in (being a personal trainer) but as I branched out into affiliate marketing in other niches I developed a passion for internet marketing which lead me to teaching internet marketing (of course I've already had results when I joined the internet marketing niche).

Thanks for the great read, Yaro! My biggest suggestion for internet marketers wanting to expand their online business is to focus and not fall into the trap of "information overload". Being on too many lists will cost you too much time trying to read all of the emails you receive and keep you jumping from one idea to another. Only keep up with a few lists that you like and leave the rest! Only read emails twice a day and spend the rest of you time working on your business!

Good luck.......

Thank you for these tips. I will make sure that I do not forget them. Only the tiny market thing seems odd. I thought if you target smaller markets your chances of success are bigger.

I think number 4 is the most important. I've failed several times because I picked the wrong niche as it was too small.

On point number 4, I have been constantly surprised at the size of the market when you enter the world of the internet. For example, you can create a national and international presence with local phone numbers (Skype), shared office space and smart phones that opens the market size massively. Do not act locally any more. Act at least nationally.

If you can come out on top with marketing then the saturation aspect won't matter. The same goes with a tiny market. The article mentioned leverage. Marketing with SEO is a big leverage.

Finding a non-saturated market with a big demand is difficult. Therefore, my choice is marketing domination in a saturated market. However, others may find the other choices better.

That my friend is some good advice - thankyou.

I have tried to start up 2 businesses now... both got interrupted by job offers I couldnt turn down for financial reasons...

Hopefully in the future I would like to build up enough money to make a proper go of it.

The main problem I ahve found so far - as you mentionned is having to do everything yourself. I am great at x, but rubbish at accounting and not amazing at customer service or sales....

Anyway,
Thanks for the tips

I think that you are absolutely right. YOU HAVE TO HAVE A PLAN. Know how much you need to live on, money for bills, and savings. The businesses that will last are the businesses that have the capital to spare. This business will have enough money to take innovative risks and take advantage of opportunities that over business simply cannot take. Slow and Steady . . . Slow and Steady

Good article. Another thing to keep in mind is not to saturate your site with Google Ads. Although you can make a few quid with some nicely located ads, lots of site owners cheapen their site and their image by cramming the site with ads. Less is more. :)

Awesome article but I'd have to say that I disagree with #4 about entering a tiny market. It all depends on its profitability and form of monetization. You can turn a tiny market into huge profits by laser targeting that audience -- you know EXACTLY what they're looking for etc, etc.

I think one could add don't quit your day job to soon. It is importatn that you have your living expenses covered for at least 6 months before you even consider leaving your day job. I learned that the hard way, but hey I made misstake no 1 as well :)

Yaro, Great Post. Keep going with this idea. Perhaps you can talk more about keeping your idea unique. I don't think you can make much money doing/selling the same thing as everyone else ;)

Great article.

I agree with Game Producer the main purpose in being is business is making money. More than that is making a profit. So you can have an income stream.

I think that you can overly analyse what do do when you're starting an Internet business. As far as I'm concerned, the most important thang to do is do something that you're REALLY interested in. Then don't worry about making money for the first six months. If you end up with something that's of great value within your chosen field then you're bound to be able to generate some money from it in the future.

Great article again Yaro, but please - tell us more about the business you've been thinking of launching...

I would like to add to point #3 that even though one shouldn't focus on making money, I think it's equally important to "focus on making money". I mean - I seriously encourage people to think about making money. I know there's great many blogs and sites that "aren't in for the money" and they are afraid to stick ads or sell something on their site - but it's part of the business: if you don't focus (at all!) on money, then your "business" won't be a business for long.

I don't recommend focusing only on money or focusing 100% on making money - as it is a results - but I definitely think one should consider options on how to monetize their site - and then you sort of need to start thinking about money.
