One of the regulars in the forums, Erik Vossman, posted several questions to the Blogging Chat forum prior to launching his blog network, asking for advice and suggestions. Erik asked a few key questions including – Is there a good day of the week to launch on the Internet? and Should I launch a network before I love the design?, which sparked some interesting feedback from the forum community (including me!).
Last month Erik went public with his blog network, Blogtown Press. He launched with a unique contest giving away coconuts from Hawaii (he lives in Hawaii) in exchange for linking to any of the blogs in his network. The competition is still running now – Link to a Coconut Contest if you want to get your hands on a coconut.
Erik mostly runs the entire network himself, which is no doubt a lot of work. His launch contest is a great idea, offering a unique prize in exchange for exposure and backlinks.

I think this is an excellent viral marketing idea. Starting a blog network from scratch these days is no easy feat and I think rather than offering cash, he is going down the right road with his originality.
Thanks Yaro for the kind words. I hope to be sending off another coconut soon, just gotta get those entries up.
Aloha,
Erik
