Spammers get on my last nerves. I don’t know they are getting my email. All i get is spam mail. spamming people just makes them not want to even click on the things that you spam them with

Maybe the message with ‘sex shop’ is from a bot but akismet filters the messages looking inside the message contents and if it founds url’s and the url’s are banned then It markes that message as spam. So, anybody can put any site as website.
I know that because It happened to me for using my url as signature at the end of the message (and I can assure you I am not a bot).
By the way:
I learned a big lesson having my site banned by Akismet. Can someone help me removing my site from the ban list?
I know that I am guilty and I have learned a hard lesson. I don’t want to in encourage anyone to do the same.

Funny thing is … the spammers have succeeded right here, in this list of comments I see one which is a copy of a legit message only it has ‘sex shop’ as the URL…. sneaky.

Akismet is a joke service. My comments are flagged as “spam” . Funny thing is i never ever entered any website info when i am commenting. I have dynamic IP and changing IP address doesnt work. And i live in a city with 6 million population. I think they banned entire city IP addresses. I am asking to akismet to put a live “false spam marked” counter. Akismet is the worst spam protection addon for wordpress.

Akismet seems cool, spammers do my head in. Had to put CAPTCHA’s on all the forms on my website because I get emails literally full of gibberish, i don’t understand it. Well good luck tacking your problems.

To be honest it doesn’t appear akismet is working on your blog, Yaro. I see adnan’s comment was scraped by sex shop and ruya tabirleri. So it appears akismet lets duplicate content appear in a thread, indeed even in consecutive comments.

Spam is definately a big problem on my forum. There is so much spam that certain sections of the forum must be deleted and then recreated. I’m speaking of 6 or 7 thousand spam posts a month. What about my blog?

Iv’e gotten some spam trackbacks on my blog but it’s not a problem. Why? Nobody has posted spam comments and there aren’t too many spam trackbacks. Ironically, my blog has high page rank so you would assume there would be some spam comments. What is the main reason why my blog’s spam is easier to manage?

The forum’s comments have to be deleted one by one while I can delete blog comments and trackbacks rather easily.

It’s very good but other people can sabotage your site or blog so you won’t be able to make comments. My other site was caught by akismet as false positive.

Well, if you just push delete, of course you have never seen grabbing something is not spam. That doesn’t mean that there wasn’t, just that you don’t look!

Unfortunately I am one of the poor guys which akismet grab by mistake

To be honest I don’t why you didn’t use Akismet in the first place. Whilst they do sometimes trap legit comments and let through some dodgy ones – they are better than most forms of spam prevention.

Askimet is pretty good, but i figure if people gonna spam you can’t stop them. But if your blog is worth protecting then I’d still do manual editing. Good luck with it though, I like it!

Basic math shouldn’t be a problem for a machine .. Akismet is great. You could combine it with other spam protection tools, than you will be 99,9% spam free.

So you are planning to use Akismet, I suggest you should look if you have other better options available, because I myself have tried the previous version of Akisment and it had many flaws in it. So even if the newer version is an improved one, still I believe there will be some loopholes exist in it. For better Anti-Spamming solutions I suggest you should visit Anti-Spamming Website

Akismet is a Godsend. Though my site doesn’t see much activity, it’s already blocked plenty of spam I would otherwise have had to weed out by hand. The PHP class is super easy to implement in non-Wordpress software.

The older version of Akismet is not very efficient. I like the newest version much better.

Hi Sheelagh – Don’t be so sure your tracing is actually finding the real culprit, it could all be spoofed.

Akismet is always learning so I suggest you mark the comment as spam and eventually comments like that will not get through. Of course there will always be some form of spam comment that makes it through, I don’t think there is a perfect solution to spam because of the nature of the source – people.

I’ve recently started to get spam on my blog which is passing through Akismet. Strange, nonsensical comments like “How green is the grass on the other side of the fence? Not much. Don\’t believe it I tell you. Jerry” The web address is richsgreengrass dot info or variations thereof. I’ve acually been able to trace the registrant of this URL via the UK’s domain names registration body. It’s a California address complete with phone number and email address! My questions are: is anyone else getting spam like this, and is there a body in the US I can report this person to? Thanks.

I’ve just started having the same issue, the spambots have wised up. I want to install (ok, activate) Akismet on my blog, but they seem to want $50 a month (!) for it because it’s commercial (I’m a locksmith). For that money, I’ll delete the spam by hand. I’m hoping they will let me go with the $5 a month option, but we will see.

I’ve been using akismet on my WP blog quite a while now, and i’ve had 0, yes 0 spams since then.

or well. it still grabs the spam so i can see it before i delete it, if i want. But honestly i just push delete :O i have faith in akismet.
