Montreal

I’m presently sitting at a cafe just down the road from the McGill university campus in Montreal. This is my second trip to Montreal and thankfully today the weather has turned out warm, warm enough to snow unlike yesterday, which was cold enough only for ice. It’s amazing when you come to look upon a snowy day as warm.
I just spent an hour or so walking around the McGill campus placing a few BetterEdit posters up. I don’t poster myself anymore for BetterEdit, but I still enjoy walking around a campus now and then and since I was coming to Montreal I thought why not. If I convert just one student into a lifetime customer today’s little poster journey could be worth as much as $1000 in business, so it might turn out financially worthwhile as well.
One thing I have come to realize as a result or running a business that focuses on the student market – it’s very hard to tap the student demographic with low margin products or services, unless you have some direct line of peer to peer communication. Advertising on campus is either not permitted or very cost prohibitive if you go through official channels like the student union.
I’m sure it works wonders for high margin products like travel, credit cards and insurance, but with an editing service where you don’t make a lot per order, it is difficult to justify spending thousands on marketing. Thank god for Google is all I can say at the moment in regards to BetterEdit’s lead generation strategies.
Tomorrow is my last day in Montreal before heading back on the road to Toronto via Kingston again, which is a lovely little town with a nice university, Queens. I didn’t have time to poster Queens on the way through, but perhaps on the way back I will. I’m not feeling to pressured since any postering I do now is a bonus.
Next week I’m heading to Florida to attend the first Rich Schefren strategic profits seminar for his coaching clients. I’ve never attended a seminar like this before and given it will just be Rich presenting for the whole weekend I suspect I will never attend another seminar like it.
The sun is shining in Montreal so I’m heading outside to do some wandering.

Oh, warm enough to snow is a common thing where I live. A few years ago we got almost no snow, because the average temperature was usually around 5 below (-15 celsius) with a lot of clear blue skies and high winds.
It was the first time I had actually had my eyes freeze shut while I was out running; I usually took those days short and would go home after a few miles.
Wait till you come back to Brisbane Yaro
its warm enough to die here right now…
Hi Yaro

Cheers and beers from Ottawa
I came across this old post from the “related post” section.
As a former Montrealer and Quebecker (the title caught my eye – you see, those plug-ins do work and make your page sticky!), let me ASSURE your readers that a “beaver tail” is not sexual or R-rated material.
You have to try one next time you’re in Ottawa. Remember, you always remember your first time, right?
Canada’s a great place to explore.
I’ve never made it to Montreal, but I’d recommend Banff National Park to anyone who makes it to Alberta.
Hi Yaro,
I live in Montreal and it is such a beautiful city. I suggest you go take a walk in the Old Montreal, when it is snowy it is such a beautiful place. The architecture is great.
Have a good trip back to Toronto.
Thanks,
Patrick Lafleur

I agree with Patrick, the Old Montreal is very nice, my favorite part of the city.

Your descriptions of Montreal ring very true with me.
…)…
I used to cut through McGill campus from the Plateau to Sherbrooke Ouest when my girlfriend was going to Concordia. Not so sure about Kingston, though…
drove through it once — didn’t really see much I would have called “pretty” (maybe I was in the wrong spot however (Montreal, too, has its ugly neighbourhoods, let’s be honest, particularly driving through it on the highway

Warm enough to snow – How I wish I was there. How was Rich’s strategic profits seminar. I have been in few training courses recently where his name was mentioned. It was always said his strategies will blow you away.
Must be an expert marketer.
