Recommended Links and I’m off to Australia

It seems like I post one of these every week lately. This time I’m heading back home, with a brief stop in Hawaii. I’ll be back in Brisbane Friday evening and it sure will be good to be home - although, I need to find a place to live yet to truly feel home.

I’ve had a good time in Toronto the last six months and traveling around a bit in North America too. I’ve met quite a few new people, which is definitely the highlight for me. It’s great to know when I head back to this part of the world, which no doubt will be soon enough, that I have friends to look up.

For now it’s back home to work on finally launching Blog Traffic School. I’m building a team when I return home to support and help launch the first product. It’s pretty clear I can’t put out as high a quality product as I want to without the support of a team, which is my focus as soon as I return. If you want to be involved in an Internet product launch and you are in Brisbane, give me a buzz and maybe you can help out and learn a bunch about Internet marketing along the way.

I’ve got a few SEO related posts coming out this week that I think you might enjoy. I’ll attempt to get them published via hotel net access during the week.

See you soon Australia!

In the meantime, here’s some links to keep everyone busy:

  • You have probably already noticed the spike in RSS feed counts occurring across the blogosphere, which hit here at Entrepreneurs-Journey too, almost doubling my feedcount. I must say it’s nice to know I’m talking to 3000-4000 of you every day. The adjustment is as a result of Google finally publishing feed statistics. I first found out about it from Adnan and Trader Mike also has a good write up about it too.
  • Dave from the MODE blog asked me to contribute to his group blog post - Career Success is Just a State of Mind. You should recognize a few of the other contributors as well. Take note Dave has implemented a nice traffic strategy here by asking for brief contributions from a variety of bloggers. He built a nice article by combining the work of many bloggers and while not everyone who contributed will link to him, some of them will, like I just did :-). Dave also has a good post for all you ‘The Secret’ fans in response to the recent Oprah coverage - 8 Secrets to Business and Career Success.
  • I have to give a shout-out to my mate JR at the Seeds for Wealth blog. He’s blogging like a mad man, really putting in the hours and pumping out the content. He may have gone a bit too far with his post - John Chow and Yaro Starak Together On Valentines Day?
  • Any of my fellow WordPress bloggers who use the Ultimate Tag Warrior and MyAvatars plug-ins should make sure they have the latest versions. After upgrading to WordPress 2.1 my tags started disappearing and you need the updated version of Ultimate Tag Warrior to fix it, although apparently it doesn’t fix the problem for everyone. The first version of MyAvatars, the plug-in I use here to include MyBlogLog avatar images with comments, had an issue where commenter’s email addresses may have been available in the HTML code, which the spam bots would eat up. Make sure you upgrade MyAvatars to fix the problem.
  • I’ll end with a quick tip for some great podcasts. Many of you probably already listen to ShoeMoney’s podcast Net Income on Webmaster radio, but you may not realize how many other programs there are. Check out the full range of Webmaster Radio episodes and I’m sure you will find something of interest - Just avoid SEO Rockstars - I’ve never heard so much rambling in my life ;-)

Thanks Yaro for the shout-out. And yes I did go to far with the valentines day post. At the time I thought it was funny. But then, just like you pointed out in the comments, my wife said it was creepy also.

Oh well, live and learn. ;)
I’ve also been called a Mad Man on the roof. I’m a roofer offline but dream of making my income from the internet. And you know what, I dream about it night and day, the freedom that comes with it.

Blogging has not seen it’s full potential and it’s in my opinion that we can take advantage of this. Establishing central blogs for offline communities such as towns and cities. Just like the newspaper, blogs can be the eye into our worlds. One great advantage though, it stays fluid and it can stay positive. Let the newspaper deal with fear, and death. It’s a new day.

I believe human ingenuity is about how we communicate. Blogging stays fluid and has a very organized way for content management.

When businesses realize the power of transparency they’ll understand the power of blogging. We’ll eventually need transparent entities online who can be trusted to recommend products and services. The internet is still to spammy and scammy.

If I’m going to buy anything that an internet marketer is trying to pitch, and since every other marketer is claiming their products will change my life, I’ll need a referral from an established credible voice unaffiliated with it, of any kind.

You always have to ask yourself what are their intentions for their recommendation.

Well anyway, thanks again for the shout-out. Much appreciated. Canada’s the best country in the world! Don’t you agree? ;)

Wow, thanks Yaro for the plug. I’m really glad you liked what you read and I appreciate your contribution. You made my piece sound so much cooler than I thought it was, but it seems that a few folks are digging it and that makes me feel pretty good.

Thanks again and if we do this again, I’ll be sure to look you up.

I’m a fan of the SEO rockstars and try to listen to it every week. In all their ramblings there are always some great tidbits of information.

This new show is showing potential:

    Hi Yaro,

Great reports and glad to see you getting back home and in the groove.

I’m not trying to sign up for your product line team … I need to learn a lot more about the “traffic” biz first, but just out of curiosity why did you specify only folks from Brisbane could be on the team?

Seems to me to be very limiting in the world of the World-wide web … but then maybe the reason behind it just points up how much I have to learn?

Dave Starr - That’s a good question! You think with all the talk of outsourcing online that I could build a virtual team all over the world.

In this instance I want to build a close-knit team that works with me in the same office. I need people who I can talk to and collaborate with face to face so we can do things like point our fingers at computer monitors to explain how we want things done etc.

I also want this team to be as motivated as I am about this launch and potentially to become full time employees who continue to work for BlogTrafficShool after the initial launch.

However that doesn’t mean I won’t necessarily need people overseas, in fact I expect I definitely will, but their roles won’t be as intensive as the people who work with me in Brisbane.

Once I get a feel for who is doing what I’ll be able to determine what skills I still need to locate and no doubt will use this blog to help recruit the right people.

Good answer, Yaro. I’m not totally sure I would follow the same reasoning, but since it’s your idea, your business and your risk, i wish you the best.

Brisbane may have a large enough talent pool, a lot of cities I have lived in wouldn’t.

FWIW I worked for a very innovative husband a wife team who were into web-based software software as a service development. We had three full-time developers and we were stalled getting a product good enough for roll-out. The boss point-blank refused to outsource outside our city of 400,000 folks because, in his words, “There’s too much scope for outsourced employees to cheat.”. Says something about his views of people, doesn’t it?

Outcome: he died, suddenly of a surprise heart attack, probably because of the stress of watching his dream company slowly collapse and even laying off old friends (me for one ;-). After he dies, one of the developers stepped into to the leadership breach to try to preserve some work for the few folks left, put together a terrific outsourced team of specialists and two years later the foundering company was bought by one of the larger clients for $27 mill US plus work at home jobs for the surviving developers plus the new team members. According to rumor, I heard that the CEO of the purchasing company had said, “I wouldn’t create jobs in my buildings for those delittante programmer geeks but if they will work from home, save me the trouble of housing and wet-nursing them, we have a deal.”

Funny how each person’s perspective is so different to anther’s, isn’t it? Anyway, all the best with BTS.

Interesting. I submitted, or tried to submit a lengthy comment to Yaro’s well thought out explanation here yesterday, and I appeared, once again, to have trouble with the CoComment plugin. Yaro, did by chance the comment show up? coComment appears to be a tool with a great concept but lately it has been giving a lot of problems, or so it seems to me.

    Hi Dave,

I just searched through my Akisment filter and found your original comment, which is now above your other comment asking about it’s whereabouts (yes that is confusing).

Sorry about that, false positives do happen sometimes.

You know Dave there is a very good chance I will build an outsourced team beyond what I already have, but right now I really want a few people working with me who I can meet and speak to in person and share the experience.

That’s a sad story about your previous employer who died, a good outcome for everyone else involved though.

OK, great, I thought the problem was possibly with CoComment .. I’ve yanked CoComment out of my FireFoz anyway due to some other issues. Thanks for checking and best of luck, no matter where the workers come from ;-)
