Lessons From Daryl and Andrew - Day 1

I’ve become such a conference junky lately. Before this year I had never been to one, now I’ve been to three in the space of two months. To be fair, this isn’t so much a conference, it’s a workshop, although there are 150+ people crammed into the room, so it’s no small workshop!

Andrew and Daryl Grant, the ebook business gurus, opened day one of their four day event focusing on, hmm…the simplest way to put it is, the “millionaire mindset”. I’m beginning to wonder if anyone has copywrited that term yet since I’m hearing it thrown around by a lot of people.

Essentially day one was all about establishing the mental framework necessary to move past any blockages you presently face that will stop your business, in fact your entire life, from becoming a success.

It makes a whole lot of sense to open an event like like focusing on the mind and your own perception of reality because the main reason for not meeting goals has nothing to do with externalities - it’s all about you. Once you get the “you” congruent with your desired outcomes then things tend to fall into place and the whole process is more enjoyable.

Paul Blackburn

Paul Blackburn, who you might remember I mentioned in my recent recap of the World Internet Summit in Melbourne where he was also a speaker, is a good mate of Daryl and Andrew and shared the speaking role today.

Paul started with a lot of content that I had already seen him present in Melbourne and then continued with an in-depth discussion of what he teaches, which I can best describe as NLP for entrepreneurs.

It’s all about locating and then removing your mental - subconscious - blockages so you can get on with the job of becoming a millionaire. The same lessons help with other aspects of your life such as health and relationships and I enjoy the premise Paul presents because it’s about life balance. The focus today was certainly placed on the making money beliefs.

Attitudes and Beliefs

Daryl and Andrew ran through some games designed to focus us on our attitudes and beliefs about money, in particular locating limiting beliefs and hopefully opening some eyes to what must change in order to realize goals. Based on the reactions of some the participants many people enjoyed the whole process and I suspect for some it begun a change of how they view wealth accumulation in today’s world. Let’s hope so anyway!

I sat out some of the afternoon presentation to do some work on my laptop so I missed the end section with Paul, which according to my mother who participated, focused a lot on positive affirmations and locating blockages. I was itching to actually take some action after the morning spent contemplating beliefs and talking about doing enough to get results, so I didn’t feel bad about missing the second half. Affirmations are great, but getting results is even better!

I suspect a lot of the people attending the workshop are feeling a bit apprehensive about Internet marketing in general, which is why seeing what Andrew and Daryl do over the weekend will be so beneficial. The practical lessons to be taught on Saturday and Sunday about selling ebooks online and building subscription sites are probably the main reason people are here, but the most vital ingredient was just presented during day one.

Focusing on Action

How often on this blog do you hear me telling you to take action and talking about how it is taking action that separates the wealthy minority from the disgruntled and life-weary masses?

The message was once again presented at the workshop. You need to form habitual practices of taking the right (and wrong) actions in order to succeed. I think it is very important to ram home this concept over and over, which I suspect Daryl and Andrew will continue to do throughout the weekend, especially to this group of people just entering the Internet business world for the first time.

If the majority weren’t so notoriously inactive (lazy?) the world would be full of tremendously successful people and probably much happier place. Of course actions must be congruent with freedom-creating goals, taking action by working a dead-end job doesn’t help unless you use that experience to learn what you don’t enjoy and quickly move on to other things that lead you to what you do enjoy, or you learn what doesn’t work so you can move on to finding what does work.

I think you get the idea, and if you are walking the entrepreneur path I’m sure you have heard this message before and should expect to hear it again and again throughout your life.

That’s it for day one. Tomorrow things get practical as Daryl demonstrates how she researches subjects to choose the best topics to create ebooks on. I’ll have more updates soon.

I completely relate! I too have become a conference junkie of late. And this ‘millionaire mindset’, removing mental blocks etc is just everywhere. I think I first heard it from T. Harv Eker, but who knows who came up with it first??

The concept does have merit though, I’ve seen it improve my life and many others. Stuff like that is always worth a shot - at least once anyway!

I too relate to the ideas behind the “change the mindset, change the person”. Unfortunately there are so many people, like myself, who are so wrapped up in just trying to make ends meet in a day job they hate, it becomes like seeing life through two tiny holes. So much passes us by, and we fall into the self-created trap of being unable to find a way forward that doesn’t frighten us.

I know this is going to sound like an excuse, but here goes anyway. Now, I don’t know what any others reading this do or did as a day job, but I work in a taxi office. I spend all day answering phones as fast as I can and taking bookings for taxis, and a lot of the time the customers make a simple task as difficult as they can. At the end of the day I am mentally and emotionally drained. Thus Marks “Simpleology” does not get as much time or attention as it deserves with me.

His concepts, it has to be said, are out there at the top when it comes to plain and simple common sense. The kind of stuff that sometimes has you saying, “well I know that”, but there is also plenty of subtle psychology in what he writes.

If you have more time than I do, I highly recommend it. In the meantime, if you would like to see any of the stuff I’ve been up to, please pop over to Goblet Of Fire

Don’t worry, there’s nothing fo sale there, just a page to read concerning my thoughts on the trials and tribulations of starting up in internet marketing.

    Hey,
I first heard about andrew and daryl when I went to deposit some clickbank cheques at my local bank last week. The lady at the teller was their friend and told me about their website. Hopefully I will be able to go to one of these workshops one day.

When i went to their website I was amazed to see that I am doing exactly what they did to make 250k in 1 year :)

    Cheers,
    Drew
