I Just Bought A House and Recommended Links

I like to start the week with a big meaty blog post but I haven’t had a chance to write one for you yet because of one very good reason - I just bought a house!

Yep, my first home purchase, a three bedroom townhouse in Brisbane where I live in Australia. It’s in a suburb about 7 kilometers away from downtown Brisbane, within the very popular and expensive “inner city”.

The Brisbane property market is nuts at the moment and I’ve spent the last few months since I returned from Canada hunting for a home only to find that most places are gone by the time I find them or I have to compete with five other buyers in a horrible silent auction process. That’s the problem with a city growing very quickly in population and not enough land to go around.

The market in Australia is pretty much like this everywhere and it’s a scary thought that for a lot of people, especially people in my age bracket who might be limited by working normal jobs (yet another reason to be an entrepreneur - no salary ceiling) that they may have to rent for a long time or choose to buy property far out from the main city area.

Thankfully I found a place that I like and can afford. It’s not ideal in location but I’m pretty happy with it, especially as a first home and investment. Keep your fingers crossed for me over the next few weeks as I go through the loan application process and all the other things you need to get done when you buy a house. I’ll have some photos of it for you once I can finally say it is mine.

Today I’ve been busy getting all the little details sorted with the property purchase, so to keep you busy I thought I would offer some recommended links. I’ve been saving up a bunch of good links for a few weeks now so take your time and enjoy…

I check my referrer stats everyday and I often come across other bloggers who mention me or my blogs in a post and of course that’s one of the best ways to get a blogger’s attention and some link love sent back your way in return. No promises of course, but it’s a good way to start relationships.

congrats on the purchase Yaro. I was in Australia for 6 weeks over christmas and heard a lot of people talking about how hard it is to get on the property ladder. queensland is starting to boom big time in that respect, like you said (eg surfers paradise). Are you close to the Q1? We only stopped in Brisbane briefly when we were heading up the east coast so i didnt really get a great chance to see it.

thanks for the mention to - im the first to admit that there are loads of blogging blogs out there. Quite a lot are talking about making money before they’ve even did so themselves….oh thats just sour grapes i know! haha. Im doing my best to continue to make the blog stand out. its a long hard slog but its one im thoroughly enjoying :)
i agree with michael - get some pics up soon :)

Congratulations, Yaro!

It took Erin and myself over a year to find a house, and we’ve now been in it for 13 months. Second best decision that I’ve ever made was buying a house (at least to this point in my life)

Good luck with the inspection process and closing.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Glad to hear you were able to locate and purchase a house. I’ve been wondering how that was going. :)
Also thanks for the link love. I have to update the list with a couple new articles I’ve found or been informed of.

Hope all is well.

Aloha,
Erik

Thanks everyone for congrats. I remember when I was a bit younger telling myself I would never get in debt and hadn’t ever been to that point, but realized I would have to do something special in order to buy a house with cash.

That was still my goal however I realized even if I could buy a house with cash that it would make smarter investment if I bought multiple houses with a loan and use my cash for the deposits.

When I get my mortgage it will be the first time I have ever been in debt - yippee!

I’ll get photos up once everything is done. I’m still in the cooling off period so nothing is set in stone quite yet!

Yaro,

What do you think about Matt Cutts and all of his talk about paid text link ads being bad? Are you worried this will affect your site and/or your income? What about the ramifications for businesses such as text-link-ads?

Best regards,

sportingone

Congrats on the purchase.

I can definitely feel your pain on the whole house hunting front in Brisbane. I am currently debating whether I should opt to buy my first home despite the exorbitant prices in Brisbane presently or if I should opt to rent, considering that I would get a much better return on my money in other investments rather than having it all tied up in my own home.

Anyway sounds like you got a sweet place, I’d love to see some pics once you have settled in.

Hi sportingone, tough question. I realize google doesn’t like paid links specifically for SEO benefits, and it’s clear a lot of advertisers are buying links just for that purpose.

My inclination is that we will see devaluing of site wide links and the focus will be on homepage/single page only links, however that being said I think a sitewide link on an authority site will always have value.

It also depends on how good Google is at determining what is a paid link and what isn’t. Knowing Google they will figure it out to a reasonably accurate degree, but not perfect.

For the time being I’m not too worried. As long as my sponsors get value and I get value I will continue to make sitewide links available from my blogs.

dear yaro,

thanks for your honest response. i will continue to use them as well, i just don’t know how many other people will.

i am sure this is having and will continue to have a negative effect on the business plan of text link ads and other similar companies.

best of luck on your new home.

regards,

sportingone

Its ways nice to have your own house. Congrats to have one. And it takes some time to make it your own “home”. What a cute story and links!
