Who I Think Should Win The Next Internet Millionaire

Following hot on the heels of the interesting Next Internet Millionaire episode 10 about blogging, comes the penultimate episode (episode 12), where the final two contestants, Charles Trippy (never has a surname been more appropriate for a personality – Charles really is kinda trippy) and Jaime Luchuck, the great Canadian hope, reveal the products they propose to Joel for their joint venture.
On the same episode, Rich Schefren is the feature expert, which made for a compelling watch all round. We get to see Rich talk about attention, then we get to hear what products Charles and Jaime want to release and then finally, the big surprise – Joel decides to back both products and JV with both contestants.
There is still a $25,000 prize on the line and of course the title of winner of The Next Internet Millionaire, but for the contestants, the hope is that their products will sell well enough that $25,000 won’t really seem like all that much. For Joel, he gets to be involved with the release of two products – he’s smart enough to see money in something and back it – so why not do it twice?
What Are The Products?
Here’s what they came up with:
- Charles, true to his passions and his core competency throughout the show, released an information product in video format about producing viral video content. You can check it out at ViralVideoFever.com.
- Jaime went with a book with a back-end. The book, titled From Cubicle Slave to Next Internet Millionaire is about the show, what Jaime experienced, learned from the experts (including Perry Marshall, Rich Schefren, Mike Filsaime and Jeff Walker – some of my absolute favorites, mentors and guys who have helped me make a lot of money online) and her journey from working a dead end job to becoming a contestant on an Internet reality show. I’m not entirely sure what is in the back-end, but you can get the book and a stupid amount of bonuses from CubicleToMillionaire.com/

You can watch episode 12 to get all the details on the process Jaime and Charles went through to create their products.
Will The Products Succeed?
I have to admit I am surprised, I actually find both products compelling because these two got my attention thanks to watching the show. When you get into a reality show you really do start to feel a connection with the contestants, and after meeting Jaime’s seemingly lovely parents and Trippy’s girlfriend (you lucky dog!) in the second last episode you can’t help but be interested in what they come up with just because you know them a little.
You should take a look at the two different sales pages used to sell the products. Charles was very cautious about not appearing to “sell out” since he comes from the highly sensitive Web 2.0 world, where there are a lot of people who do not like traditional Internet marketing. Charles was well aware that he could not go out there brandishing a long copy sales page without getting hit by a lot of “haterz” saying he’s selling out for the money, so he has a slightly more subdued (shorter), funky and creative sales page.
Jaime on the other hand has a traditional long form sales page full of a stupid amount of bonuses. It’s Internet marketing as you have come to expect, however she does have the advantage of Joel’s experience releasing a best selling book, and I expect Joel and his team are helping her to replicate the traditional amazon book launch process, throwing in everything including the kitchen sink in order to get as many sales as possible during the launch week to get into the top 10 best selling books on Amazon. If you get into the top 10 – even the top 50 – that can be enough momentum to sell a ton of books.
So far I’ve received two emails about the launch of these products and I’m not on very many Internet marketer’s email lists anymore. Rich Schefren has thrown his weight behind Jaime and Neil Shearing appears to have as well as I just got an email from him recommending her book.
Who do I think should win?
I think both products are quite interesting. Charles is right – there is not a lot of info out there on how to create video content that spreads virally and even less from people who have actually done it. It also makes complete sense that you would use video to teach how to use video. I think there is a market for what he offers and given enough exposure he could walk away the winner because of one good reason – books are not profitable.
I don’t specifically know the back-end strategy or what actually “counts” for the purposes of determining a winner of the competition, but as Jaime knows and stated in her finalist presentation, she won’t get rich selling a real world book.
She will do wonders for her credibility and personal brand, and if she continues with a back-end of a membership site, seminars, etc, as she explained in episode 12, then there definitely is a business there too. Her only issue is proving herself beyond The Next Internet Millionaire.
Tim Ferriss and his like have already rocked the world preaching the leave or downsize your job, change your lifestyle and pursue your dreams angle, and these people have actually walked the talk, so until Jaime has proven she can do what she teaches there will be a question mark over her head. That being said, I think there is space for more people in the industry, in particular more women, so Jaime has a chance to become a player if she decides that’s the market she wants to cater to.
In the end though, the choice of who I want to win the show came down to a couple of elements. First, the big one, Jaime is from Toronto. A tear come to my eye when I watched the video with Jaime in downtown Toronto, near one of my favorite chapters bookshops (I did a lot of blog writing there) just off Queen street. I just have to vote for a Canadian.
Jamie is also a writer, and as bloggers we are all writers and we have to support each other. No doubt Charles is a blogger too, but Jamie is a book writer, someone who is likely going to use her words from now on to make a living, which is always something I admire.
With those two considerations, I put my money and my vote behind Jaime and bought her book. I happen to enjoy reading and a book about people I know, an industry I love and written by a person with a story to tell, has to be good. The cover appeals to me too and should fit nicely on my bookshelf.
I’m still not a big video watcher, so I haven’t bought Charles’ product, that being said I would consider buying his product and having my resident video expert go through it to pick up any pointers. I think Charles knows his stuff, and the few previews we saw in episode 12 looked good.
The Final Episode
The final episode of The Next Internet Millionaire is released on November 21st and the winner will be the person who makes the most money with their product. You can watch any of the previous episodes by visiting the archives.
Kudos to Joel and Eric for making a great product and giving it away commercial free (well sort of – no ad breaks at least!).

[...] Yaro Starak of “Entrepreneur’s Journey” feels otherwise, but I’m betting on CharlesTrippy as the winner of the first-ever reality television show, “The Next Internet Millionaire.” [...]

Just blogged about this today too. How cool to see both of them still in the competition.
I’ve just been loving the show and I think it’s awesome that Jaime’s from Toronto too
. Looks to me like they’re both winners because I’m sure they’ll make enough from their products to decently propel themselves on to the next project.
I’m going to buy both products I think. I’ve done a few, very bad, videos and think it’s fun and would love to know how to do a better job. Also, I enjoy reading and since I’ve watched every episode of NIM I think it would be really neat to read the ‘behind the scenes’ version. Pretty smart of Jaime to keep such good notes.
Last week my vote was on Charles to win but now I just don’t know… seems like they both have a very good chance.
Hmm, at the risk of sounding clueless – which I am. What is this you’re talking about? A TV show? Is it worldwide or just in Australia? Is it online? This is the first I’ve heard of this and it sounds interesting. How do I watch it? (Btw I’m in Thailand and we don’t have access to much TV – but, if it’s online I’ll watch it.) Thanks a bunch. Vern
I did not pay much attention on this next internet millionaire reality show until just recently when Harris Fellman recommended Jamie’s book.
I don’t know how she manage to get those names interviewed but it shows that indeed she got the talent to be the next internet “M”.
Stupid amount of bonuses? Crap? Well, worthwhile for the price of a book.
Damn, I knew I should have kept myself up to date wit this because everybody would be blogging about it. I’m only up to episode 7 and now I know who’s in the final! I’d better get watching quick because I’m sure I wont be able to avoid knowing who the winner is.
I like both Charles & Jamie, and I think Charles is a really cool guy but I just can’t see him working with JC. Joel is too much of a traditional Internet Marketer.
Personally I like the web 2.0 way of doing things, I despise long sales letters etc so I’m kinda rooting for Charles but I like Jamie too, and anyway she had the guts to stand by her values and say NO to eating worms!
Personally, I think that Charles’ sales letter and product appeal more to me as a viable product. His sales letter is great despite not being long form, and he has a good video on it that shows what you can expect when you can order.
Jaime’s sales letter just didn’t do anything for me. I’m used to hypey long form sales letters, but I just couldn’t get myself interested in it. The book itself sounds like a good read, but her sale of it just didn’t draw me in. She certainly has the “sex appeal” aspect going on, though; I think that she should have had the cover of the book much farther up the page than she did.
I haven’t decided yet if I am going to buy Jaime’s book, but I definitely won’t be buying Charles’ DVD right now. I do not have any near future plans for video. I eventually will want to work with and will probably come back and look at it in a few months or a year or whenever it happens to be, but at this point I just don’t have a need for it despite the great sales letter.
I really have not followed this that much, but I will now. Thos products sound very interesting. I don’t know if they will sell 25k worth though.
It will be interesting to track to the winner and to confirm how millionaire he/she will become without the pressure of a reality.
I liked both products, but enjoyed Charles sales letter a lot more. If I was going to buy one of the products it would be Charles. I have tons of products that cover Internet marketing, but non specifically on creating video. It is much more unique to me.
I think Jaimes product will appeal more to beginners and Charles more towards a specific niche. With Joel’s audience that means Jaimes product will probably sell more copies. It will be interesting to see the results.
I think Jaime’s product will appeal to NIM junkies – those that just want to know and have everything about the show.
Charles’ product is definitely more unique.
The question as always comes down to who get their product in front of more eyeballs and convince those eyeballs to buy.
Yaro,
That’s a good point. I think more Internet marketers may promote Jaime’s product because of the potential for back-end affiliate money. If I am not mistaken, Charles doesn’t have a back-end offer or does he?
Hi Yaro,
Just to clarify… I promoted Jaime on Wednesday and will promote Charles today. Joel actually requested two separate promotions. I haven’t picked a favourite.
Neil.
Hey everyone,
I agree with Blaine that the sales page pitch just didn’t strike a cord with me, whereas charles came off more fun and I related to that more seeing thats my personality. Depends on the people they get thier product infront of and where they are at in thier business.
Toki
I did buy Jaime’s book, and the backend is just what she gave out in the presentation – course + membership site. Plus of course the ten million bonuses which are starting to include some heavy hitter stuff (even Rich Schefren’s kicked in!).
I do have to say, though, Yaro, that the show was anything but ad-free! Every presenter had a slight variation on their normal url plastered across the screen, and I’d put money on those domains being redirected to affiliate urls… Not to mention the fact that you can’t watch it without a black ‘ads’ band across the bottom and several other linked in buttons, banners etc on the viewing page. I’d be pretty sure Joel’s already got at least his production costs back in affiliate commissions since most of the presenters had high ticket items on offer.
That said, kudos to him for coming up with it, and I guess you can’t expect anything to be ad-free anymore (even the back of toilet doors these days!) One thing you can’t say is that he doesn’t know how to monetise! Congrats to everyone who got on, even if I wasn’t one of them, and yes, I’m backing Jaime too… As a fellow cubicle slave, all I can say is: You Go Girl!
