Techsmith are giving away free downloads of their video screen recording software Camtasia. The only catch? It is an older version.

Students in Blog Mastermind will know the blog case study videos I do, which are real live blog reviews recorded in a screencast video. Members ask me questions about their blog, then I go take a look, record the screen and the audio and offer my advice and tips to improve their blog.

To create these videos and other videos I have released on my blog, I use a program called Camtasia. Camtasia is very easy to use and until recently you had to spend a few hundred dollars to get a copy.
Techsmith, the company the produces Camtasia, are giving away a free copy of the software, but there is a catch - you don’t get the latest version, you get Camtasia Studio 3.1.3.
Camtasia Studio 3.1.3 works great and while obviously it doesn’t have the features of the latest version, it has all of the core functions. You can record and produce videos fine, in fact I used this software for several months before upgrading.
If you want to take advantage of the free offer click here to download your copy of Camtasia Studio 3.1.3 by following these steps -
Step 1
Download the software from here (save the file to your desktop).

Step 2
Go to this page, complete your name, country and e-mail address and Techsmith will send you a software key to unlock the program.

Step 3
Install the software and then input the key to unlock it and you will have the full working version of Camtasia Studio 3.
Unfortunately this offer is only for PC users, sorry to the Mac people out there!

You can produce videos for your blog with the software, make products you can sell online or produce tutorials to train people how to do things. This software alone can be the basis for a thriving online business, so I strongly recommend you take advantage of this before Techsmith change their mind!

Thanks for the update and the great newsletter. I just wanted you to know that you didn’t include the download link for Camtasia in your e-mail. From the link you provided, you can get the software key but the Camtasia site doesn’t have a download link for version 3.1.3. Once I got back to your blog I found your download link and all is good.

This is really useful software, there are many, many ways to use it. I can see them really increasing the market share with the deal to upgrade to the latest version.

HERE’S ANOTHER TIP FOR YOUR READERS. I was already running the 30 day free trial of Camtasia Studio v5.0 and was considering purchasing full licence for $300. Instead, downloaded free v3.1 and sent for free key as outlined above. Then purchased upgrade from v3.1 to v5.0 on their website for only $150. They send you v5.0 key immediately, PUNCH INTO v5.0 TRIAL and away you go for 1/2 PRICE. Didn’t even need to install v3.1, just downloaded file and threw away!
John - If you got the second email I provided some exact steps for getting the free version, just like you see in this post here.
Tym - Yes, a point worth mentioning if your intentions are to buy the program.

Unfortunately the free offer is no longer available
The download link still works, but it’s only for a 30 day trial of 3.x, while they also offer the same 30 day trial for 5.x.
Kinda sucks missing the boat on this one.
