I run that blogspot blog using it’s sub domain for 1 year.

And one month later after I made my first income as an affiliate, I purchased a custom domain for my blogspot blog but still hosted in blogger but I manage to push it to PR3 and made to the first page of google serps for the term blogging advice.

Now, I am using wordpress blogging platform which I dream of since I started blogging.

I would like to know more about blog flipping from you YARO.

The outline you’ve given is especially down to earth and really very much what I would apply (I’m no techie) to real estate on the web. In the past, actual real estate has been good to me (with accidental flips) and I see no reason why this virtual real estate should not be real – with what you’ve spelled out here.

I’d like to say hello to Ben Helps for his helpful responses above too. If you’ve got actual tips/suggestions for me (especially for techie help) I’m listening. IN fact, I’d like to get in touch with decent but not overpriced web masters (real techies and not like me).

The one I stopped as soon as Google picked the site up, is only making money through AdSense and AdBrite, so it wasn’t earning enough to support the campaign. Also as I’ve setup more sites of a similar nature I’ve interlinked them prominently, so I didn’t need to give Google any help to find them quickly.

The other one however makes money from Amazon in a competitive niche and I have limited ability to customise that site, so 1. I need the AdWords campaign there to keep getting targetted traffic to it, and 2. it brings in enough to pay for the campaign.

Anyway, you said that you are using AdWord – is it a good investment? I mean, if it’s only purpose is to getting indexed by Google, IMO setting up a sitemap works better.

Just a small update on my site flipping experiment.

Per my comment above I decided to try my hand at site flipping at the end of May (after this article finally tipped me into action).

I trolled the site auction sites (like SitePoint) and picked up a few existing sites and a script for a new site and set to work. I ran a short AdWords campaign for my first site and then linked it to my following sites to help them get indexed in Google.

My only site flipping revenue streams so far are from AdSense, AdBrite and Amazon (preferred the more set-n-forget type of sites). June my gross revenue was $8.55, and July so far is $48.62!

My only current ongoing cost is $10/month hosting.

I have been looking for good ways to make some money on the web, I love starting sites and building them, but I don’t want the time of keeping them up and going to get me down.

This is something that I have heard of, but flipping sites never really peaked my interest until now. Thanks for the info and I will be looking into this.

Any suggestions on where to go for more information, to find some partners, and to begin a serious business on building, developing, and flipping websites?

That’s only because PPC is not my strong point. Organic search I understand and it’s free, so I prefer sites that are driven by organic traffic.

A sitemap is a great idea – that definitely helps with the SEO.

@Noobpreneur: Amen to the competition out there. I was browsing Sitepoint when a listing for TinyAlbum.com caught my eye. I’d hoped (against hope) to pick it up for a up to $500 – it ended up selling on there for $7500 in the space of a day or so.

@Sheng Loong: something to consider is why newly built web sites are selling so cheap – it’s because it can be hard, expensive and/or time consuming getting the site listed in organic search.

@Broker: certainly in browsing Sitepoint’s listings most fit your profile of sites that could do with a design makeover – even those who’s owners claim they look great.

Finally the question I wanted to ask Yaro. This article was the final straw for getting me off my arse to try my hand at site flipping (rather than just making more sites for customers/my own use.

You say to tend to shy away from using AdWords on a site, however to you think it helps a new site get (organically) listed/ranked with Google more quickly? Likewise to you think a Google Sitemap speeds up the process or getting out of the sandbox?

I do wonder if flipped websites that are held for more than two years would qualify under taxable gains tax instead of the regular income tax. In the U.S., you only pay 15% on capital gains as opposed to more than twice as much (in my income bracket anyway) on regular taxable income.

If you are very good at this and can focus time then yes, you can research, find the high traffic/poorly monetized sites, optimize and flip in a short amount of time.

But try doing that while writing two courses, a blog, an email list – a entire business, or of course, for many others – keeping a full time job. That’s why I focused on sites that I can buy, do nothing to do them but keep them going as they are, and then sell, which is why it takes longer – I’m just too distracted to focus on it.

I’m glad you enjoyed the experience flipping your blog – it must have showed you what is possible and set you down the flipping path – would that be right?

Also, I don’t completely agree with the forum idea. Yaro is correct, it’s nearly impossible to build a successful forum from scratch. However, buying one isn’t the answer either. Forums are notoriously hard to monetize, and when monetized properly… they still don’t net much profit when compared to other means. For example, a blog with the same amount of readers will generally make much more money, even with the same amount of traffic.

Hopefully Yaro won’t mind, but I’m working on launching a new blog (link is in my name, don’t want to spam here) that covers just the topics that Yaro is talking about here. Flipping blogs, websites, and domains for instant (in some cases) profit. It’s not rocket science… but just like Yaro said, it’s going to get much, much harder as time passes and people catch on to these concepts.

Excellent advice that really gladdens the heart! I have invested so much in my sites, not yet properly monetised, but I know that they are great ideas & will come right in the end.

Dead right about the difficulty building up a forum from scratch – I had a great idea, but my target market is mainly not as web-aware as I am, and noticeably reticent to post on the forums.

And so right about the tech help – get the right help and you can FLY…..
