This is my first comment on your site. I have been working my site for a couple of months. Yesterday, was my big hit, more than 100 unique visitors. How can convert them to subscribe? And does every blog makes money on subscription? I wonder.

I think the breaking point for a blog is when the owner does something remarkable and different. It maybe a piece of linkbait, or some innovative tool or something like that. Even if a blog were to get 10000 visitors from search engines, unless the brand is established, the real growth doesn’t happen.

Thanks for the great info Yao. Right now I’m using blogspot as my blog host. There is very limited design capabilities however. Would you suggest tyepad or wordpress instead? What is the best blog site to use?

German is no problem – there are at least a few other people who speak and read German in the world right?

I think any non-English languages represent huge opportunities because they are not tapped yet.

Especially the big European languages from countries full of wealthy people. Also places like Japan, China and India which have massive populations.

I’m curious if I can use your system for my blog in German. When you write in German you have a smaller potential audience. But perhaps it’s just a small difference. If I learn to earn only 2’000$ instead of 10’000$ like you, then I can live with it.

It’s all about building on previous success.

If you can get to about 100 daily readers to your blog, you should be able to convert about 5 of them to an email list each day too.

Increase the traffic to your blog, increase the opt-ins to the list, which add to the previous opt-ins.

Aim for 1000 email subscribers, do a launch, then aim for 3000 subscribers, do another launch…and so on.

Incremental improvement driven by the momentum you build at your blog.

I’m looking forward to watching the video tomorrow. I’m sure I’ll learn something important.

I’ve been online long enough to know that some of my activities result in making money and some don’t. I guess the 80/20 rule applies here. The trick is to figure out what 20% is the real money makers and concentrate on them.

I’ve been in the process of boiling my online activities down and figuring out where to put my focus. I’m sure your video will be revealing.

It seems that it’s more difficult for a small, individual blog with a strong voice to make money. From everything I’ve been reading lately, it appears that the blogs at the top are the ones who are pumping out the lists and trying to land a bullseye on the front page of Digg. Is it possible for a small blog trafficking in only personality to make the same money as the big dogs? For the future of discourse, I hope so.
