Seems like a lot of people like to play on John Chow, i.e. NotJohnChow, and now John Cow. What’s next, joncow or notjohncow or jonchow? Is this for the search engine traffic or just to be tongue-in-cheek? Anyhow John Cow’s blog has a nice design and seems a bit similar to Tyler Cruz’ blog…was it designed by the same person?

I got my questions answered. I was having problems with downloading the software that was to help me see the videos on http://www.becomeablogger.com before, but I tried it again with success and I was able to see the videos this time.

Dear Yaro,
I believe that I need my own server with Wordpress.org? Is that true? Can I use my own tabletop computer or do I have to rent or own a server? I found out that I need my own server from the book,”Blogging for Dummies.” Could you recommend some servers to buy or rent? I found out about the difference between Wordpress.com and Wordpress.org from Problogger.net and I want my own domain like a professional blogger.

Yes and no Bert. My proofreading business brought in a five figure income for several years consistently before selling for six figures.

Although I’m certainly building on each experience for an even greater result. I expect long term, you are right, this blog and the business around it will be the most successful so far…

Who knows what will come after that though!

You have to remember for a lot of people who are good at making money online, the most fun they can have is helping others to do the same and thus teaching and selling how to do so is what they enjoy focusing on. I certainly feel this way.

Once you have the skills, there’s a lot to be gained teaching others.

But, as you note, without learning how to be successful at other ventures, you would lack the conviction and wisdom you’re now able to impart.

Hey Bert – It’s a fair question and one I have considered about other Internet marketers too.

Most people who actually make a good living selling how to make money products have actually made money in other niches. It’s actually quite hard to profit in the make money niche unless you actually gained some skills and experiences in other areas.

People who try and blog about or sell in the make money online niche who haven’t actually made money before, generally don’t do so well, for obvious reasons.

In my case my first profitable site was about a card game called Magic, then I had an online proofreading business, and offline English tutoring business, I’ve had a network of sites about mini bikes, a blog about small business and a forum about music.

All of these have been profitable ventures for me and I use the skills and experiences from this when I teach others. This blog would not be what it is today if I didn’t go through this because I would have nothing to teach and no stories to tell.

First, I am pulled in by your blog. You seem sincere and possess a lot of good info. Thanks!

At the same time (and this doesn’t solely apply to you), occasionally I wonder if folks like yourself, Darren Rowse, and others aren’t merely making money from telling other people “how to make money.”

It’s a bit like the real estate seminar leader saying how to make big money in real estate, but a part of you wonders just how much they made on their own, independent of their current gig of relaying to others how to do it.

Hopefully, this isn’t too offensive. I sometimes just wonder, though.
