There Is A Sucker Born Every Minute

SuckerYou have to love the Internet marketing world. There’s a certain amount of jaded bitterness that surfaces when you sell something that presents a make money online opportunity. Every time I promote a product related to marketing or online income generation, there are those people out there who have adopted the belief that all marketers are liars and their products are more sales than substance.

Some might argue that it’s the hype - the language used to sell Internet marketing, in particular the long sales page format, that elicits the snarky comments or the sighs of “not again” from a handful of viewers. The disdain is palpable from some people and as much as I understand where they are coming from, it would be nice to only deal with satisfied customers.

You can’t please all of the people all of the time and everyone has a different experience and mindset, which isn’t always positive. No matter what you sell, there are people who will take issue with what you do and how you do it to the point where they feel the need to publicly state their disapproval.

I’m a bit tired of negativity, so today I’m going to relay to you three “golden nuggets” from three products I purchased from Internet marketers who sell Internet marketing products - the prime targets of the naysayers.

I spent at least $1,000 on each of these information products and they have all had a positive impact on my business and returned more than their cost in increased income and resource savings. Note these ideas - the nuggets - are just a sample of what I learned from the products and as anyone successful knows, it’s the two or three really powerful ideas that make a big difference.

Here are three examples -

Do You Fail Because You Lack This Special Ingredient?

WillpowerIt’s Saturday here in Australia and I’m about to head to an all day workshop run by my Yoga teacher. I do a Yoga class once a week, although it’s not like your normal Yoga, it’s more like an all-in-one spirituality, meditation and Yoga package. At the end of each lesson my teacher gives a little talk about a subject - sometimes it’s about a Yoga posture, other times he reveals interesting things like niyamas and yamas, the guiding principles that all yogis follow.

I really enjoy the talks because it’s very clear my instructor has a passion for what he does. He can ramble on about the Yoga practice and leading a yogic life the way I can ramble on about Internet business and blogging.

Willpower

A few weeks ago one of the topics covered was willpower. Frequently I find many of lessons from the Yoga tradition have parallels with business, which makes complete sense given we are talking about life and we are all governed by the same universal rules.

The willpower discussion particularly grabbed my attention as relevant for people who are starting businesses and blogs. My Yoga teacher made a statement that some people have natural strong willpower and when they decide to do something they just do it. Others watch on and wonder how these people continue to achieve what they want, while they struggle to get anything done.

Reporter vs Expert - Why Most Bloggers Are Stuck Reporting

Reports around an ExpertThere are basically two types of bloggers in the world - reporters and experts - and some people perform both roles (usually the experts, it’s hard for reporters to become experts, but it’s easy for experts to report).

If you have ever taken an Internet marketing course or attended a seminar specifically for beginners, you have probably heard about the two different methodologies. Whenever the business model is based on content, and if you blog for money then the model is based on content, people are taught to either start as reporters, or if possible step up as experts.

I’ll be frank, you want to be the expert.

Reporters leverage the content of the experts and in most cases people start off as reporters because they haven’t established expertise. Experts enjoy the perks of preeminence, higher conversion rates because of perceived value, it’s easier to get publicity, people are more likely to seek you out rather than you having to seek others out, joint ventures come easier, etc… experts in most cases simply make more money and attract more attention.

Do You Really Only Work Two Hours Per Day?

Time ClockThose who know me well, my friends, family and colleagues, read the claims I make about my blogging and laugh.

As per the Blog Mastermind sales page and throughout the Blog Profits Blueprint, I claim that I only work two hours a day to generate the around $5000 a month income from my blogs and related projects (forums I purchased with profits from my blogging).

The people who see me on a regular basis would tell you that I work a lot harder than just two hours per day.

So is my claim a marketing gimmick? Is it something I state just to lure people in with dreams of an easy working life for a high financial return? Am I using some kind of trigger to convince you that my program is the answer you have been looking for?

Well yes and no.

Yes in the sense that having a claim that is desirable and something compelling enough that people would hand over money to learn what it is all about, is a requirement for my offer to be successful.

If I used something like - Work 40 hours a week and if you are lucky you might just make a full time income from blogging - not many people are going to join. Heck, I wouldn’t join either, who wants to work 40 hours a week for $35K a year!?!

The reality is that my program is designed to teach what I really do - I really work about two hours aggregate per day on my blogs to produce about $5000 a month in income. However I spend a lot of the rest of my time doing other work, which tends to add up to 4-10 hour “working” days on average, including weekends sometimes too.

Kill the Bargain Hunter and Change Your Attitudes Toward Money and Time

Time is MoneyThe last few months have seen some huge changes in my life. I bought my first house (pictures coming soon - I move in later this month), I just bought a new car (Suzuki Swift - again photos coming soon), I haven’t had a car in nearly 7 years so it will be great to finally not rely on friends for lifts (thanks Fran and Will!), I launched a new business, Blog Mastermind, and began the process of leaving my other business, BetterEdit (more news on this soon too!).

It’s been a pretty amazing ride since I left Canada in February, that is for sure!

Something I’ve noticed lately is a change to my mindset towards how I spend money. Ever since I began studying business, learning the 80/20 Rule, dealing with information overload, studying business systems with Rich Schefren’s mentoring program and just my own progression as a business owner, has led to a big mental shift.

The core concept I am talking about here is the relationship between time and money and how I leverage those two resources.

The Bargain Hunter
