More Evidence Of The Google Honeymoon Period And Why Blogs Rock At SEO

As is glaringly obvious I was promoting Brad and Andy’s StomperNet launch on my blog recently (thanks to those who signed up under my affiliate link too - I suspect you will have tremendous success over the next 12 months if you implement what you learn and work with the StomperNet community).

The first post I made about the launch was back in September, exactly one month ago, then another post in early October when they opened the doors of the program and a final one yesterday. The post I made yesterday won’t actually come into play in the search engines quite yet because it usually takes a day or two for new articles to show up, that’s if you are reading this post the day I publish it of course (Friday 20th October 2006). However my two older posts are already well indexed since they were published many weeks ago.

As you might recall I wrote a piece discussing what I call the Google Honeymoon (incidentally I didn’t copy this term off anyone - I came up with it off the top of my head, but I wasn’t the only one - I’ve since seen it in webmaster forums and on other blogs - so I guess the name is sticking and all of us SEO writers are thinking alike!).

The honeymoon is a period shortly after an article is published on a blog or website where it ranks well in Google for reasons I speculated about in the full article - The Google Honeymoon Period.

Thankfully because Brad and Andy did a one day re-launch that was a few weeks after their initial launch it was possible for some sites to rank well in organic search if they had written about StomperNet during the first launch. Given the whole launch was about organic search (and conversion) I thought it would be impressive if you were to rank well for the term “StomperNet” in the organic Google results.

For fun yesterday and I a google search for “StomperNet” and low and behold, Entrepreneurs-Journey.com was ranked number one in the Google organic search results, at least for me here in Canada today and yesterday, it may well have changed if you are reading this article days, weeks or months later. Of course the only people searching for “StomperNet” were probably people well aware of what it was, but nonetheless I was very pleased to see my top ranking and took a snapshot of it to preserve it for posterity. Here it is -

StomperNet No.1 Google Ranking

As you would presume, the top keyword bringing in incoming search traffic to my blog yesterday was “StomperNet” as well.

I don’t expect this ranking to last too long because I believe my site is enjoying some honeymoon time and I also suspect StomperNet’s own sites will begin to rank higher as the search engines start factoring in all the new backlinks coming in to the site after the launch. Thankfully the timing was good in this instance, where an established site like mine could enjoy a little time in the limelight because it has history and authority in the search engines and thus ranks higher in a shorter timeframe than other, newer sites.

Once again, it goes to show if you build your blog well and implement a few key search engine optimization techniques, your blog can outrank even the SEO expert’s own sites…Go blogs!

Your Last Chance To Get Into StomperNet Is Today

StomperNetToday (Thursday) the doors on StomperNet Membership are opening again to fill the last few available spots that Brad and Andy didn’t fill during the previous few weeks.

In case you missed the hoopla, StomperNet is the ultimate search engine optimization and website conversion course. You know me and you know I don’t like hype and this product launch has been one of the most hyped launches in history, but despite that I am willing to support it, and I’ll tell you why - it’s because of Brad Fallon.

Brad was the guy who taught me about SEO from the beginning back when I knew nothing. I took his email course and implemented a lot of the techniques on my business website, BetterEdit.com. BetterEdit enjoys first page rankings, in fact last time I checked it had position one or two for every key search term in the editing industry that I optimized for. While there isn’t much search traffic in general what traffic has come to BetterEdit thanks to top organic rankings has no doubt contributed many thousands of dollars worth of business - I see evidence almost every week when a new client submits a job and they put “google” as the referral source in their sign-up form.

I can’t give all the credit for my results to Brad but I can certainly give him a big chunk of it. If it wasn’t for his advice I doubt BetterEdit would have enjoyed top rankings for as long as it has (almost 5 years now of first page rankings at bear minimum - that’s a lot of business over a long period of time!).

Conversion + Traffic

StomperNetBrad Fallon and Andy Jenkins are the only guys I know who specialize in SEO *and* conversion strategies and are putting together a comprehensive course on the subject. There just isn’t any other course out there that teaches this stuff to the advanced level that these guys cover (things like eye tracking tests to see where people look at when they come to a website - that’s cutting edge stuff that I thought only Google was doing).

The key to success in Internet business are two ingredients - targeted traffic and conversion of that traffic to make sales. Top organic search rankings result in free targeted traffic. Top conversion strategies result in more sales from that traffic. I hate to sound like a profit-monger, but if you are in business you are in the business of making profits, so it is hard not admire what Brad and Andy do.

The Free Videos

In case you missed the full launch you can catch up on everything and watch the great free videos that were released by going to the StomperBlog.

How To Join StomperNet

The sign-up page is here: Stomper Network

The last of the Slots will be available on Thursday, October 19th starting at NOON eastern time.

If you are early you will see the waiting list page that says StomperNet is closed. You can join the early notification email list to be certain you know when the re-launch is live or just come back to the page at around noon. I have no idea how many slots are left and how “limited” it is - it’s always hard to tell with Internet product launches of this magnitude - but I suggest if you are really keen that you are at the page at midday just in case.

Anyway, that’s enough from me - you know this is the last chance you will get at this course, yes the re-launch is going to be hyped again today by all the other Internet marketers and you will have plenty of options to buy from if you want to maximize your return on investment because they are all throwing in big bonuses to convince you to sign-up via their affiliate link (behind the scenes the top affiliates in this launch are competing for a prize of a BMW M-5 - that’s some BIG motivation! - and no, alas, I am not in the running).

Like I said when the program first launched, I recommend you shop around to find the best deal if you intend to join. If you join via my link well you better darn email me so I can thank you personally (that’s my bonus :) ).

Personally I would join if I wasn’t already spending $400 US a month on Rich Schefren’s course for 12 months and I had the time to absorb even more materials and attend more seminars. I think a 12 month course is a good pace and I suspect if your needs match up with Brad and Andy’s claims you will very likely end up satisfied by the end of the course (and no doubt earn back your investment quickly). If you don’t have the time or you are terrible at putting things into action I’d focus on those problem before spending more money on Internet marketing products.

Brad and Andy SEO Launch Imminent

The huge hoopla surrounding the Brad Fallon and Andy Jenkins product launch is coming to an end (or at least you can finally buy the product) on Tuesday USA time.

I’ve never received so many emails for one launch before and to be honest I couldn’t keep up. However there is one place where everything is being kept nice and tidy, the Stomper Blog (aff).

Check out the blog if you want the latest news and to review the history of this huge launch including all the free videos. If you are not already on the early notification email list you can sign-up at the blog as well.

The Google Honeymoon Period

I have no doubt this topic has been discussed on many SEO forums before but I’m going to give my take on it based on what I have experienced.

The “Google Honeymoon” as I call it, is the period 24-48 hours after producing a new web page where it first ranks in the Google search index. In my experience for the next 2-4 weeks the page will rank particularly highly and then drop back to whatever is normal for the website.

When I first publish a new article in this blog I generally receive a first page rank for the keywords in the title and possibly the tagged internal keywords too. Generally if the search term isn’t uber-popular I can hold the number 1, 2 or 3 position for a few weeks and then it drops to somewhere around positions 4-10. Bear in mind this blog has a high PageRank and good authority so it ranks quite well, what is considered normal for your blog or website might be pages 3-10 with a brief stint on the first or second page during the “honeymoon”.

For periods of time I’ve had top three rankings for terms related to the articles I have recently published, including keywords such as Mike Filsaime, Butterfly Marketing and Rich Schefren, clearly keywords that have some competition if not from the guys themselves than other Internet marketers.

You SEO fanatics can correct me if I am wrong but I believe the honeymoon period occurs so Google can collect data on how relevant your pages are for those keywords. If during the honey your pages are clicked often and the visitor hangs around for a while (doesn’t click back and choose another option from the search results) then your drop after the honeymoon isn’t significant. The logic being that your page offers a good answer to the question being asked. If your page doesn’t get many clicks or people don’t stay around then after the honeymoon you can expect your page to drop further in the index.

As I said I’m only speculating on this, but the pattern definitely occurs for me on this blog. It’s certainly fun to watch initially while the honeymoon is on and I’m happy with how well my site ranks in general, but it’s always a bit of a let down when you lose a first position ranking. By being aware of the honeymoon you can at least understand why you might suddenly lose your rankings, though of course it’s foolish to ever believe you can be 100% certain of what Google is doing.

Watch These Top Quality SEO Videos

Back when I began working online and learning about search engine optimization the very first source of quality information I found was Brad Fallon’s free SEO course (aff). I still recommend it as the number one place to start learning how to improve your natural search engine rankings at no cost.

I hadn’t heard much from Brad lately in terms of information products and I assumed he was busy working on his business. Despite my perception of Brad being an SEO specialist, which he is, I’m pretty sure he makes most of his money from his online business. Like most online experts, Brad develops his skills from implementing and testing things on his own business website, which he reports back to us either for free or in information products (just like me actually!). Brad is famous for his online Wedding Favors business which does a stupid amount of online sales per month - we are talking about millions of dollars each month just online.

An Uber-Product Launch

If you are at all into SEO then you probably know about some great videos recently published by Brad and his business partner Andy Jenkins. Andy brings the conversion skills to compliment the SEO skills of Brad, making for a fairly lethal combination in terms of online marketing.

The videos are still available from here - http://www.convertlinks.com/ - but I think they will only be online for another week.

The videos are top stuff, no sales pitch and offering case study examples of both natural search and conversion techniques. I recommend you take a look if you are in charge of SEO or online marketing for your business.

Despite the lack of sales pitch at the moment you probably realize that this is the beginning of a product launch process by Brad and Andy. I’ve been lucky enough to be part of the pre-launch joint venture partner group because I know the manager of the launch personally (not Brad or Andy though). The idea behind this launch is to eclipse everything done before it in terms of information product launches.

Now if you are like me you are probably a bit tired of product launches so you might be sighing “ho-hum” at all the usual hype. There are two reasons this launch is at least worth watching -

  1. Because Brad and Andy are attempting to do the largest launch ever they have put a lot effort into the free materials going out. The videos are great content so take advantage of them while you can. Remember you don’t have to buy anything to watch the videos.
  2. This is about natural search. There really aren’t many good natural search resources available and certainly even fewer that combine conversion with natural search and teach it quite like Brad and Andy do.

Why Natural Search Is Important

Natural search (or organic search) is all about free traffic from ranking high in search engines. Natural search is beautiful because it’s free. Besides word of mouth there is no more powerful source of website traffic than natural search and to be honest I don’t think there is anyone out there with the skills that Andy and Brad have who are spending the time to teach it to others.

As I’ve mentioned many times before, ultimately it’s not a perfect science to convince the search engines that your site should rank highly, you can’t control how Google and Yahoo work, but when you start using advanced conversion methods along with natural SEO techniques you can control things to a very high degree. No guarantees of course, but it’s pretty close to full-proof - especially since in most industries your competitors won’t be doing it, so you have a big advantage.

Just for simplicity sake, in case I have confused you, I am talking about two elements:

  1. Getting free traffic from ranking well in search engines and…
  2. Taking that traffic and optimizing your website for sales conversions. To do this you run split tests on different elements of your website, for example headlines, or graphics, or any element - watch the first video for some great examples of how Brad did some tests on his Wedding Favors site.

A split test is trying two different elements to see which gets better results - and when we talk about results it’s about convincing a website visitor to do something - to “convert” is the term used online. A conversion may be clicking a link, filling out a form or buying a product, or many other things.

You should watch the videos for more information on conversion testing.

What’s The Deal With The Launch - What Are They Selling?

I’ve enjoyed being on the “inside” of this launch because I’m learning a lot about the launch process. Although I’m not really on the inside inside, I am part of the initial promotion partners so I see things from that angle and know where the launch is going.

Unfortunately I can’t share with you what the whole story is, that would be a betrayal of faith and against the launch rules, but I can tell you this is a high-end product launch, so if you don’t have thousands of dollars to spend just sit back and enjoy the free resources.

If you are serious about your SEO and website conversion this may be one of the only opportunities you will have to learn from the best. Be sure to join the early notification list (aff) if you want first notice of all the resources being released for free and the upcoming product launch.

I don’t suspect I will be buying this product once it launches simply because all my info product money is going to Rich Schefren’s coaching this year, so I won’t be able to do an in-depth review for you like usual. Hopefully the free resources including the videos will be enough to convince you whether this product is right for you or not.
