Years later people show up with amazing success stories, making big money, and you had no idea they were ever influenced by your work. [ Download MP3 | Transcript | iTunes | Soundcloud | Raw RSS ] Morgan Brown contacted me recently to talk about a company he works for called Qualaroo. During our email discussion Morgan told me he was a previous Blog Mastermind member and had actually gone on to build a profitable blog. Any time I hear about someone who took action and actually built a blog that makes money using the methodology I teach, I have to interview them to hear how they did it. You can now listen to that interview by clicking the play button above or downloading the MP3. Blogging About Mortgages Morgan previously worked in the mortgage world. He became quite experienced in the field, but did not like some of the practices going on in his industry. He decided to start a blog about it, which he began as a side project while maintaining his job (his job provided plenty of ideas for blog content). Initially his blog acted as a tool to help gain exposure for what he did at work, but as he studied more about blogging he realised it could become an income source. Eventually his blog became his full time project as his income reached the $4,000 to $6,000 a month level. Before he started blogging, Morgan's background was strong in traditional internet marketing, buying traffic, etc. He came across my Blog Profits Blueprint, loved it, and later became a member of Blog Mastermind when I taught it for the first time. Morgan then did something most people do not; he applied what he learned. As you will hear in the interview, Morgan would learn about powerful techniques and then go out and try them on his blog. For example, Morgan was initially writing shorter news posts, then read about my "Pillar Article" content format, and changed his writing style, which increased his traffic. He learned about conducting interviews, so he went out there and interviewed many of the leading bloggers and experts in his industry, leading to more traffic. Morgan was also innovative, coming up with ways to improve techniques. For example, in the second half of the interview you will hear how Morgan took the guest article writing idea and super-charged it, attracting over 100 new links to his blog. [Tweet "He then did something most people do not; he applied what he learned"] What We Covered During The Interview Morgan was quite detailed in this interview, talking about the exact techniques he used with his blog. Here are some of the things you will learn about. How Morgan was able to start a grow a successful blog while still having a full time job (he talks about when he would write articles). What methods he used to make money, starting with AdSense and then growing to include affiliate marketing and direct ad selling using the OpenX ad platform. How he brought on new writers once he hit a content production ceiling, including how much he paid per article. Morgan talks about several of the traffic techniques he used, including what worked during the early days and what he tried after his blog was already established. Eventually Morgan sold his blog to take what was a dream job opportunity for him at the time. He talks about how he was able to find a buyer and how much money his blog sold for. If you want to hear a complete blog success story, which was started and built as a side project, this is one inspirational interview you won't want to miss. [ Download MP3 | PDF Transcript | iTunes | Soundcloud | Raw RSS ] Jaime has just released her new book, The Eventual Millionaire, the same title as her blog and podcast. To help celebrate the release of her new book Jaime joined me on the EJ Podcast so we can learn about the book, her podcast and blog, and also how she currently makes a living. From $70,000 In Debt To Making $100,000 As A Coach Jaime, and her contortionist performer husband (!), found themselves in some pretty big debt due to buying a car, student loans and the usual expenses you accrue in your early twenties. When they decided to have a child they realised that getting on top of their money issues was critical. They wouldn't have two job incomes to carry their debt when Jaime stopped working because of the baby. In this interview you will hear how Jaime cleared her debt, how she started a new coaching business after her baby was born, which led to the creation of her Eventual Millionaire blog and podcast. The Master Of Masterminds During the interview make sure you listen towards the second half where Jaime talks about how she formed a powerful mastermind group. She managed to convince some fairly well known people like Pat Flynn to become part of her group, even though her own reputation wasn't quite as established by then. Her advice on how to create powerful masterminds with super-successful people is priceless. What We Covered During The Interview Here's what we talked about during the interview - We talk about how she met her husband and bought a house before turning 20 Jaime explains how she herself became a coach after working with one I ask Jaime to explain how she pre-qualifies her coaching clients and why she can charge as much as $600 an hour Jaime had 30,000 downloads of her podcast in the first month, so I asked her how she did it Jaime tells the story of she almost gave up on her blog, but after exposure on big sites like Yahoo and CNN, it took off There's some great advice in here about podcasting, masterminds and running a coaching practice, so don't skip this one. I just spent half an hour talking to my guest. I’m sorry we didn’t record it for you but we decided to actually start the podcast interview and get this going. My good friend Jaime Tardy has joined me on the show, and for some reason whenever I talk to Jaime we just keep talking. So, we really need to interview her, find out all the amazing things she’s doing. One of the challenges with Jaime that I have is actually introducing her to you because she’s done a few different things. She’s most well known publicly online for the Eventual Millionaire Podcast. She also has a great story which we’re going to cover from in debt to breaking free of the debt, and then becoming a six figure earner. What I did realize – or at least I was curious about is she also currently makes a living coaching and consulting online as well. So there’s a few different elements of play. Jaime, let’s break this down. Thank you for joining me. JAIME: Thank you so much for having me Yaro. I appreciate it. YARO: Okay, so did I get that summary right? I’m sure it’s disjointed but… JAIME: Perfect! Sold! [laughs] Yaro Starak: Blogger | Podcaster | Living The Laptop Lifestyle no

He worked his way up to become a director and producer, working on such well known shows as Big Brother, My Sweet Sixteen and Pimp My Ride. [ Download MP3 | Transcript | iTunes | Soundcloud | Raw RSS ] Although he earned a reasonable wage in TV, the income was sporadic and he struggled to build any assets. He began to explore the internet for options, including time spent listening to many of the podcasts in the archives here on Entrepreneurs-Journey and my two free reports, The Blog Profits Blueprint and Membership Site Masterplan. Thanks to his work studying resources available on the internet and hearing so many case studies of people who were making money online, Jules built up a strong theoretical framework for how to run an internet business. The problem was that it was all theory, no practice and thus no money. Finally Jules took the leap and started his first online projects. He enjoyed moderate success with a blog about the flip pocket camera selling cameras via the Amazon Associates affiliate program, and an online video show about parenting, however progress was slow and the income was far from enough to support him and his family. This all changed when Jules made two decisions - He added a newsletter optin form to his blog to start building a list He decided to create and sell a training product From there he went on to sell about $19,000 of his first training product, using a clever technique to create the product and find partners to promote it. Since then he has released three more training products and sold over $200,000 in the last two years, with sales still coming in daily. How Jules Does It Make sure you listen all the way through this podcast interview. I made sure Jules listed each technology tool he uses to put together his training products and how exactly he is able to find buyers and create product so quickly. He also does something that I think is very unique in our industry - he sells products that are just one or two videos, rather than creating large courses with multiple modules. He still charges $97 for them, and people find them valuable, so there is definitely a lesson to learn in how Jules creates his products. What We Covered During The Interview Here's what we talked about during the interview - Jules explains how he became a photographer and how that led to becoming involved in television production I asked Jules to explain exactly what he did as a director-producer, including what TV shows he worked on (I was geeking out a bit here) We then transition to how Jules left the TV world to start internet projects, including his first project - a blog about the Flip pocket camera Jules talks about some of his other projects, including an online video show about parenting, and details how much money he made from all these early projects We then take an in-depth look at Jule's first product, including how he created it, found people to sell it for him and what technology he uses to deliver all his materials We end the podcast by reviewing where Jules is at today, including what products he has and how he has managed to sell so many training products predominantly relying on other people's traffic. As you will hear in the interview, Jules was a listener of this podcast, and recalls a time when he was skeptical about all these people I interview who claim they make money from the internet. [Tweet "Sometimes Your First Product Is A Stepping Stone To Your Profitable Product"] Now that he is on my show as one of them, he wants to hammer home the point that everyone can do this, as long as you put in the work. Where To Find Jules On The Web iPhone Video Hero Screenflow Video Hero I hope you find this interview motivating and get out there and create your own story, Yaro Starak: Blogger | Podcaster | Living The Laptop Lifestyle no 1:12:09

Lewis left the world of football with no income, no knowledge of how to make money or any job prospects. His sister provided a couch for him to sleep on, which he leveraged well by using the spare time to learn about how people were making money on the internet. [ Download MP3 | Transcript | iTunes | Soundcloud | Raw RSS ] Lewis became very active on LinkedIn and turned himself into one of the most well networked sporting personalities on the site. He leveraged his connections to start hosting LinkedIn meetup events in the real world, which gave him an income stream, albeit a very time consuming one. When Joel Comm invited Lewis to come talk about LinkedIn marketing on a webinar, the doors opened to a new income opportunity. Although a beginner to teaching online, Lewis loved the format and went on to become a full time LinkedIn marketing trainer, selling his teaching programs via webinars. Lewis co-founded an online teaching company that made several million dollars over a period of three years. He conducted over 700 webinars during this time, and then decided he had enough of teaching LinkedIn and similar subjects. He took a break, then just recently came back with a bang, starting a brand new business called the School of Greatness, which began with a podcast, and has now grown into a coaching program. As you will hear during this interview, the school is more like a movement that Lewis is proud to lead, than just a training course. [Tweet "What dream could you achieve if you told the world you would get it done in 30 days?"] Inspiration And The Practical All Wrapped Into One Interview This interview begins with Lewis explaining what he is up to today and some of the key highlights behind the principles he runs his life on (including how he learned to play the guitar and salsa dancing using immersion). We then recap his career in the usual Entrepreneurs Journey Podcast style. During the second half of the interview, things get very practical. Lewis explains exactly how he makes money and teaches other people to make money online, primarily using Webinars as the main marketing tool. He breaks down what tools he uses to build his email list, take payments, run his membership site and conduct his webinars. Here are some of the other things we talked about... How Lewis learned to play the guitar, salsa dancing and how he become a professional handball player. Lewis offers two examples of members in his program and how they have gone on to quickly earn thousands of dollars online. [ Download MP3 | Transcript | iTunes | Soundcloud | Raw RSS ] He began by recording his training sessions to create a product and then threw himself deep into the world of internet marketing. Fast forward to today and Dan is making $45,000 in sales per month online promoting a range of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu digital products, with a sophisticated email marketing sales funnel and segmentation strategy. This is a LONG interview - over one hour and fifteen minutes - where Dan breaks down many of the key elements that make his business work. If you have ever wanted to take your offline practice or service business and transform it into an online digital training product business, you MUST listen to this. Dan was very generous with his time and open to all my questions. As a result, we got to really pull the curtain back and see how Dan does what he does. Dan's Survey During the interview Dan talked about how he basically "forces" his subscribers to fill out a survey so he can discover the motivation behind why a person has joined his email newsletter. Using the data he gets from the survey, he can then send tailored messages to certain segments with special offers for his products. This has proven to be a very effective strategy, enabling Dan to convert many more of his subscribers into paying customers. As we promised on the podcast, here is an example survey Dan uses - What We Covered During The Interview There are some absolute gold nugget techniques in this interview. In particular pay attention to how Dan first got traffic to his new product (this is something I have never heard anyone else do, and I have done a lot of interviews!) and his email segmentation techniques to increase sales. Here are some of the things we talked about... Dan explains how he became a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu figher and teacher, specialising in techniques for smaller people and how he opened a Gym to fund his university studies. Dan explains how he first created a digital product, then did interviews with top fighters and used them as a doorway to become a writer on many of the top BJJ magazines and blogs. We learn how Dan increased his exposure, including some very clever partnership techniques so he didn't have to become reliant on constantly doing launches to make money If you want to know exactly what "segmentation" is when it comes to email marketing, Dan explains exactly how he does it with surveys and tagging to his database [Tweet "Email segmentation secrets explained by @danfaggella in this revealing Entrepreneurs-Journey Podcast"] Websites Mentioned During The Interview Science of Skill MicroBJJ Infusionsoft Aweber Paypal Sixth Division Ontraport Office Autopilot Screencast Tim Reid's podcast CLVBoost.com First Internet Income   [ Download MP3 | Transcript | iTunes | Soundcloud | Raw RSS ] [spoiler] YARO: Hello, this is Yaro Starak and welcome to an Entrepreneurs’ Journey interview with a special guest. [ Download MP3 | Transcript | iTunes | Soundcloud | Raw RSS ] Chuck makes money from directories. Do you remember directories? Those old style sites that list links to websites which you can search or manually dig through? Chuck suggests that you consider adding a directory - like a resources page with links to relevant websites, tools and products - to your website or blog. This adds value to your site, but can also become an income stream. As you will learn about in this interview, by charging a price for a premium directory listing, you can add a new and very passive income stream to your blog. All you need is the traffic to justify charging for an entry in your directory and perhaps a little groundwork to find paying advertisers. Hands Off Income What I really like about this method is that it allows you to monetize an area of your site in a way that most people do not. I bet if you are a blogger right now you probably have a resources page, which you link through to products and services via your affiliate link. That's standard advice for bloggers - sell affiliate products via a resources page. How about charging $1,000 a year for a premium advertisement on your directory resources page, then locking in five to ten sponsors? You just need them to sign up at the start of the year, pay the annual fee, and that's it. You know how much you are going to earn and receive it up front. Assuming of course you have traffic and deliver clicks to your advertisers, this could become a very stable, low-labour income stream to add to your business. It could be a full time income source if your site has enough traffic. If you are confused by any of this, have a listen to the interview with Chuck. We cover all the basics, including how Chuck has made money with his own directory, how he sets things up and how he recommends you get started. Make sure you check out Business Directory Profits, which is the guide Chuck mentions several times during the interview. What We Covered During The Interview Here's what we talked about during the interview - Chuck tells the story of how he first came up with the idea of paid directory listings We talk about Chuck's first website directory, what subject it was about and how he set up a system to make money charging for premium listings I ask Chuck to explain some of the technical options available to us to manage directories and was surprised to hear him suggest just starting with a standard WordPress page you manually update (how easy!) Chuck talks about pricing, how he recommends you find advertisers and how to keep the process as hands off as possible Where to Find Chuck Online Business Directory Profits Google+ Chuck's Twitter profile Chuck on Facebook See Chuck on Pinterest Relevant Links Mentioned in this Interview BusinessDirectoryProfits.net mindmappingsoftwareblog.com BudURL.pro Pretty Links Office Autopilot Aweber MailChimp GetResponse This is a short interview but I think you will find the idea worth thinking about. David, born in Nashville, has been involved in the music industry on some level for his entire life. [ Download MP3 | Transcript | iTunes | Soundcloud | Raw RSS ] Although he started out performing music, it soon became apparent David's true talents lied in the realm of music marketing. David became very proficient promoting his own gigs using street marketing and direct response advertising. This in turn led to roles teaching others how to promote their music, consulting and eventually writing a book called the "Six Figure Musician". Can Creative People Give Away Their Work And Still Make Money? Much of this interview focused on the idea of giving away your creative output - your music, or writing, or whatever it is you do - for free, and how that can lead to making an income. I asked David in an era when music is mostly free, available on podcasts and YouTube to consume on mobiles whenever we want to, how can a musician make a living, or even more - six figures a year? I was interested to hear his answer because as a writer, I am keen to hear how we might also give away all our writing in blog posts and free reports, and even possibly give away our training courses, and yet make a profit. David's answer focuses very much on ancillary opportunities that become available to you, once your music or your writing gets you exposure. Things like becoming a paid speaker, or paid to do gigs as a musician, or selling merchandise, or getting hired as a consultant. There is an interesting topic and as a creative I just know you will love this interview. Go listen to it now. Of course, it is free. What We Covered During The Interview Here's what we talked about during the interview - David talks about his background growing up in Nashville and what his original aspirations as a musician were. We discuss how he became a music marketer for himself, then a consultant/teacher for other musicians We dive into the big discussion of how the music industry has changed and what that means for people today who are trying to make a living from their music David shares plenty of examples from music artists who are making a living from their music but not predominately from sales of the music I ask David how he personally can make a living if he gives away his book, especially if he wants to make money beyond getting paid for services like consulting and speaking This is a great podcast for any person who is creative and trying to make a living from their creativity, in a world where everything is free online. Today, my guest came to me after I listened to his audio book from his print book. I’m an Audible subscriber and I was looking at my options and came across his book called, “The Six-Figure Musician.” Now, I’m always keen to find anything to do with marketing online. In this case, the book was about how to basically market yourself as a musician including offline and online marketing and I figured, there had to be some overlap between musician marketing and of course, as an artist, a creative, as a writer, as anyone producing anything you’re trying to sell from your own creativity. Those are all similar things to being a musician. So, I had listened to the book. After listening to a video conversation between Marie Forleo and Gary Vaynerchuk, I posed the question whether I should consider starting a high-end blog services business similar to what Gary and his brother are doing with Vaynermedia. Walter's response was pretty clear about what I would be up against with this business, given his background in consulting. Here are some of the subjects we discussed - How to compete in an industry like podcast hosting when price is the only differentiator What should you be prepared for if you start a new services based business Can buying a podcast work as a growth strategy for your own podcast What about buying a pinterest account, or tumblr blog, or twitter profile - are these other types of assets worth buying? [ Download MP3 | iTunes | Soundcloud | Raw RSS ] In this episode we focus on the concept of Product Is Marketing, which was the topic of my most recent newsletter as well. Make sure you read the comments that follow the newsletter, there is some great stuff there from Jade and Lewis for anyone who sells informations products online. This topic first surfaced as a result of my attendance at a Melbourne networking event that featured Jonathan Teo, who works for a venture capital group who have backed Twitter, Instragram and most recently, Snapchat. We start this episode with a discussion around buying a website instead of starting one from scratch and why you might want to do that. This ties in to the upcoming release of my latest e-guide - How To Buy And Sell Blogs And Websites For Passive Profits - launching next week. Enjoy our show, let us know what you think of our new music and podcast name, and don't forget to leave a comment reply with any questions you have, which we will respond to during the next show. The plan is to talk about what we are working on in our businesses, what we are studying and learning, what events we attend and people we meet, as well as what is current in technology, social media, internet marketing and entrepreneurship. It's basically a chat show conversation with two guys who spend a lot of time and energy focused on tech and business. The first episode is now up and ready for you to listen to. We plan to keep each episode to about 30 minutes, which should be just long enough for you to listen to during your commute to school, university, job or workplace. We have it in our calendar to record one every Monday Australia time. We will make changes to the show as we get feedback from you. Please have a listen and leave a comment letting us know any questions we should address during the show, what you think we should call it or any other feedback you have. Thanks for listening, Yaro and Walter P.S. As I mention in the episode, these chat shows are not going to replace my interviews podcast. Apologies for the tiny bit of static that came through in the recording. This is one great interview if you are looking for a step-by-step story of how a guy can manage a full time job and develop a niche site income during his spare time. It's also incredibly inspirational if you are new to this game of making money online. [ Transcript | iTunes | Soundcloud | Raw RSS ] Patrick didn't do anything unusual. He simply built a website about addiction (which he personally had recovered from) and then filled it with incredibly valuable content from his own experiences and knowledge. It helps that he is a prolific writer, but that doesn't take away from the fact that he had to sit down and get the work done, and find the time to do so around working a full time job. Make sure you listen to the interview where Patrick talks about the hardcore writing sessions he would commit to, producing as many as 400 articles in a month while on holiday from his job! He also explains how his adsense income grew slowly at first and what he did to grow it from $100 a month, to $200, then $300, $600, $1,000 and $2,000. Patrick ends his story explaining how he stumbled across a buyer for his site and managed to secure his dream price - $200,000, enough money to invest and live off so he didn't need a job again, while he moved on to new online projects. And yes of course, he did quit his job. Tips From Patrick: Give yourself a "daily quota" - For example, write every day and you will become better at it and quicker too Know your subject well and keeping a quota is easy because you have lived it Do keyword research within your existing statistics to find good topics to focus on (where the traffic is) Ask for your dream money and someone may just say yes Relevant Links Mentioned in this Interview Clickbank 4-Hour Workweek Stat Counter Chris Garrett Escrow Downloads [ Download MP3 | Transcript | Soundcloud | Raw RSS ] Text Version [spoiler] YARO: Hello, this is Yaro Starak and welcome to an Entrepreneurs Journey podcast. Today, I have Patrick Meninga, is that right, Patrick? PATRICK: Yes. YARO: From… Where are you from? PATRICK: Kalamazoo, Michigan. YARO: Kalamazoo, Michigan, okay, in the United States and I've invited Patrick on to tell what I hope will be a very interesting story of how he sold his website for $200,000. So, obviously, it's a case of starting your own site, growing it and then, selling it. I've read a little bit about this, Patrick and it sounds like you weren't really expecting this to happen. So, I'm really looking forward to hearing the whole process. Thank you for joining me today. PATRICK: Oh, thank you, Yaro. I'm glad to be here. YARO: So, start at the beginning then. I assume you've been on the Internet since you were born? PATRICK: Well, actually, I guess, I probably started about maybe five years ago and I didn't have a website. I didn't have anything. I just had an idea that I wanted to make money online and what I did is I started doing some research and I found Clickbank products. And so, real quick and dirty I made, this really lousy awful product and I just threw together a page, a landing page and I started buying some pay-per-click traffic. I didn't know what I was doing. I was just sort of scrambling in the dark and it was a complete disaster. I didn't make any money. That was sort of my first foray into Internet Marketing. YARO: Before you keep going, I'm curious, were you a working man before this? Did you have a day job? PATRICK: Oh yes, definitely. I've been working my whole life and at that time, I was actually working in an addiction treatment center. So, I was working in a drug rehab. That was what I was doing and I wanted, I knew there was a way that people were making money online and I didn't know anything about it so, that's how I got in to it. YARO: So, this was a career you had. Yaro Starak: Blogger | Podcaster | Living The Laptop Lifestyle no 1:00:50

I've been watching the startup community here in Australia a lot recently. This is because of my own interest having a startup and because things are heating up in Australia in general when it comes to tech startups getting media coverage and investment funding. [ Download MP3 | Transcript | iTunes | Soundcloud | Raw RSS ] One of the standout startups I keep hearing about is WikiFashion.com, a wiki for fashion started by a young lady named Madeline Veenstra, who happens to live in the same city as me, Brisbane. Madeline started the site with her then boyfriend now fiancee as the technical founder, beginning with just your basic Wiki installation and the desire to fill it with all things fashion. It took off and she quickly found herself in charge of a site with traffic and an income stream from advertising large enough to live off. Now Madeline has begun taking the next step, seeking funding to help grow her project and move to New York, one of the best cities if you work in the fashion industry. I called up Madeline and asked to do an interview so we could learn how she started her website, grew it and what advice she would have for other entrepreneurs. I do have to apologise that we sort of geeked out a bit on the "Brisbane startup" aspect since we are both from Brisbane and have startups, but despite this I know you will get a lot of inspiration from hearing Madeline's story so far. Enjoy the podcast and please take a look at WikiFashion to see what Madeline and her community have created. [ Download MP3 | Transcript | iTunes | Soundcloud | Raw RSS ] YARO: Hello, this is Yaro Starak and welcome to another interview with an entrepreneur. Today, I’ve got Madeline Veenstra on the line with me. If you’ve never heard of Madeline, she’s actually the founder of WikiFashion which we’re going to learn a bit about in this interview and Madeline is actually, well, I should check, Madeline, are you born and raised in Brisbane like me? MADELINE: Yes, I am. YARO: Awesome. You sound more like a person from Brisbane than I do so, you’re more authentic. Where did you begin this process? Did you go to University of Queensland like I did? MADELINE: I did. I went to UQ and I started there in about 2004 and I didn’t do anything to do with fashion. Obviously, UQ doesn’t have any fashion courses but, I did Japanese and Economics. And so, I became an economist when I graduated and I kind of just started WikiFashion on this side. It was more of a hobby to sort of, funnel my creativity into something and it just sort of started to take off. It was a lot rewarding than being an economist because at that time, I was being trying to become an econometrician, so very hard core data, sit on Excel all day long kind of stuff. Not very thrilling. YARO: Yes, I remember doing just the basics. I did a business management degree at UQ. The Economics subjects just… Yes, I could not imagine doing that for a full time living. I think I’d go crazy. MADELINE: Oh yes. I told them that in my interview. I said I don’t like Maths and they thought I was joking and then, they gave me the Statistics job. YARO: Oh! [Laughs] MADELINE: Yes. YARO: Maybe you should practice your serious version and the joke version. So, is there any history of entrepreneurship in your background? Did you have the lemonade stand as a ten-year-old or anything like that? MADELINE: Actually, I think I did. I had a car wash / lemonade stand when I was about 13. I put all these signs on our front driveway saying “Free Car Wash and Lemonade Stands.” My dad got very angry and took down all the signs. But yes, other than that, I haven’t really done too much. I think WikiFashion kind of just came about, not an accident but, it was, like I said, more of a hobby. It wasn’t something I thought I could make any money from. It was just something that I think a lot of people noticed was missing as well and they came on board. And so, Yaro Starak: Blogger | Podcaster | Living The Laptop Lifestyle no 28:44

More recently Jeff and I reconnected as he wanted to tell me he was now in charge of a very successful membership site (he had studied my Membership Site Mastermind program, among many other things, hence the connection). I asked Jeff if he'd like to tell his story on my podcast and he agreed. Little did I know Jeff has a history first as an artist, which you will hear about during the beginning portion of this interview, including how Jeff was able to earn enough money as an artist living in New York to retire (clearly a rare achievement in that industry!). Leaving the art world Jeff embarked into a partnership with a family member to set up medical practices, which later led to writing about how to run and market a successful surgery on a blog and community website. Today Jeff is in charge of a million dollar online empire with a range of successful websites. Listen to this interview and learn exactly how Jeff managed to build a very successful and influential online community of medical professionals, and how he has been able to generate some fairly significant revenue streams as a result. We meant to connect but only finally had a chance to do this interview for you now. Erica went on a pretty wild ride with a web hosting company she started from scratch herself, that almost went bust and just months later was sold for $1.1 million dollars. This is one story that is definitely a roller coaster ride, but as with all success stories there is a lot you can take away from both the good points and the bad points. Web hosting is an extremely cut-throat business. It's interesting to learn that Erica's business eventually profited not by targeting the small hosting accounts but by renting server space to larger companies. In the end good customer service and relationships made the difference. If you're interested in running a web services company, this is definitely a podcast interview worth listening. It turns out Michael was one of the co-founders of ModernBill, a billing platform primarily used by hosting companies. This was very interesting to me because I knew ModernBill from my previous business back in the early 2000s as a web host reseller. I never made huge money with webhosting, but for a while I hosted a handful of sites and did some very basic website design work while I was at university. During that time I spent a lot of hours inside the WebHostingTalk Forums, where I learned a ton about hosting. ModernBill was always the top recommendation when it came to billing customers and in fact many of the hosting fees I paid back then went through this software. I asked Michael what happened to ModernBill and he explained that he sold it off to a company called Parallels a few years ago, which was the company behind the PLESK server control panel, which I also used on all my reselling accounts back then. How To Start A Software Company This interview is all about how to start a software company while working a full time job, grow it to over 20 employees, then sell it off with a nice exit paycheck. Here's what I found really interesting about Michael's story: This is yet another start-up success story that began simply because a person had experienced a need, built a solution, then thought other people might need the solution as well, so started selling it Michael was part of a partnership, where two people with very different skills were able to come together and compliment each other and build a solid company ModernBill grew very quickly because it was first to offer a product in the web host billing market and Michael was very diligent, quickly adding new features requested by his customers Michael and his partner hired new staff as needs grew, filling roles as they became apparent, making for a very organic growth process Being passionate about what you do, and experiencing the same thing your customer experiences is a great combination because you know the problem intimately and have the skills to build the solution yourself Finding the right strategic partners was critical for creating new sources of revenue as the company expanded beyond just the software When it came time to sell the buyer surfaced from within the existing community Michael was a part of, so maintaining a connection to the industry you work in is very important You will enjoy this interview with Michael, especially if you're interested in launching an online software company. Matt is the co-founder of one of the very first online forums I spent some time on, SitePoint.com, which today is a massive web community and information site. Sitepoint became a near-daily visit for me when I was focusing on buying and selling websites. The Sitepoint forums contained a marketplace which became the leading place to buy and sell websites. This section of the community was recently separated into its own site, Flippa.com, which is by far the premier destination for website flipping and has tons of listings and cool features for those interested in buying or selling websites. Matt and his team recently launched the innovative 99Designs.com service, which is a fantastic idea, linking people who need design work done, with freelance designers. You can submit a project to 99Designs and in a matter of days have up to as many as a hundred potential designs to choose from. You pick the best design, who "wins" the payment for the job, and you get the design. All three of these sites are tremendously successful, and as a result Matt has established himself as a leading player in the web development community online. In this interview Matt takes us back to the very beginning of his online success story, starting with his first website created when he was just 15 years old. Matt found himself on the phone closing $10,000 advertising deals in between classes at school, earning enough to buy himself a new BMW with cash by the time he was just 16. This is an incredible story of big time online success, yet Matt still works from his home office in Vancouver. His business partner lives in Melbourne, where they have an office and team, and there's also a smaller office and team in San Francisco. If you're thinking big with your online business, this is definitely an interview to listen to. Matt reveals how his sites have grown large, how they test different methods to make money and what today is their largest income stream. Special Bonus From Matt Right at the end of the interview Matt surprised me with a special offer to try out 99Designs. If you need some design work done I strongly recommend this service, I just used it myself to get a logo done for my next project and it was a great experience. Outside of Internet marketing, two of my passions are tennis and dance music. This blog has already gifted me some great connections in the tennis world, but for the first time recently, I met someone from the dance world - DJ Sean Gallgher. Sean emailed to introduce himself and explain what he is up to and I immediately took an interest in his story. Sean is a well traveled DJ from Vancouver in Canada, who has enjoyed an amazing career in the electronic music industry. What makes him particularly interesting, and why I invited Sean to do an interview, is that he currently makes his living by selling information products in the "How to DJ" market, which I think is just way cool. Sean is currently living out a year in Mexico with his girlfriend, spending the time surfing and working his online business, earning a healthy $8,000 to $15,000 a month. However the journey to get to where Sean is today was a rocky one. Although Sean has been successful as a DJ for a long time, his entrepreneurial career has been up and down, going as far as $100,000+ in debt with a failed online electronic music store, to taking a job selling cars (which he hated), to starting all over again with a new online business teaching how to DJ - and all of this before his 25th birthday! Listen to this interview and you will learn a lot about perseverance, even in the face of some challenging situations, where most people would have opted to stay in a boring job in order to recover, rather than continue to risk the entrepreneurial path. You will also learn the very practical steps Sean has taken to set up his online information publishing business, including how he creates training videos, builds his email list and finds buyers for his products. This is yet another success story that demonstrates if you are passionate about something, can teach it and others want to know how to do it, then you can sell what you know as information online. After you listen to the interview, make sure you visit Sean's websites - How To DJ Fast and StartupFreedom.com. Ryan Lee has a really impressive story, one that any person who has a passion that involves helping other people with problems, should hear. Ryan started out as a personal trainer and all around fitness freak. He worked hard to educate himself and then worked hard to build up a client base of people he helped as a personal trainer. That passion eventually lead to starting a website to share information about personal training, which eventually became a six figure online membership site, then several and eventually a multi-million dollar information publishing business. It all started with just Ryan, which is what makes this story so inspiring. Ryan literally started out just like you are probably right now - with nothing but your mind and body as a vehicle for leverage to build a business. He knuckled down, studied hard, served people and then leveraged the power of the Internet to break free of financial limitation. You will hear Ryan's passion in this interview, plus as I like to do, whenever Ryan said he did something, I stop and ask him the exact steps - like how exactly did he build his first website (with MS Frontpage!) and get traffic to it, and then how did he turn it into a membership site? This is a great interview, go listen to it now, and after you are done check out Ryan's site to learn more about what he does and how you can do it too - RyanLee.com Here's the download link for the recording - Mp3 Download [ Download MP3 | iTunes | Soundcloud ] Yaro Starak: Blogger | Podcaster | Living The Laptop Lifestyle no 54:54

This interview features Tyrone Shum, a serial entrepreneur from Sydney, who as you will hear considers himself a "generalist". [ Download MP3 | iTunes | Soundcloud ] I can tell you though, he's good at one thing - copying me! I've had to laugh a few times when I've received emails from Tyrone (I'm on his newsletter), and when I read them I notice the words are very familiar. Tyrone has literally taken up my invitation to "copy what I do" so far as copy and pasting some of the emails I use during launches, just changing a few words to match his products and websites. It has served him well, as he has managed to come online and within 12 months build up an income stream of over $10,000 a month selling information, following the blog + email list + membership site and affiliate marketing model I teach. Tyrone took part in my Membership Site Mastermind program and studied everything I do from my blog to the emails I send to my list. In terms of being an action taker, he's definitely one of the best people I know, and a stand-out performer from my program. Today Tyrone's niche is outsourcing, which he learned how to do with one of his previous businesses, turning it into an automated operation, requiring not much of his personal time to manage. He then went on to establish himself as an outsourcing expert, which is what his membership site Mass Outsource is about. However before he became an online information publisher and teacher, Tyrone had two successful businesses in some interesting niches. He got started as an entrepreneur with vending machines and then later on, due to his interest in Dragon Boat racing, started a shop selling Dragon Boat products (this is the business he eventually outsourced and used the experience to start his current online business). In the interview you will hear Tyrone explain how he has been able to succeed at three different businesses and how he so quickly became a six figure earner online (he did it in under 12 months!). You can find out more about Tyrone at TyroneShum.com. James and I have known each other for a while, however I hadn't had a chance to get his full background story, so over dinner in Melbourne he gave me a rundown of how he went from the head of a Mercedes dealership (earning $300,000 a year!) to quitting that job to become a full time internet marketer, now earning seven figures a year. Whenever I talk to James I always leave slightly confused, but always impressed with what he manages to do. He runs his business from home, working with a team of contractors from around the world. He has more online income streams than you can count on two hands and two feet combined, and is always learning more and doing more. He's one of the best people I know in terms of speed of implementation - he just gets things done. In this interview I ask James to explain how he transitioned away from his well-paid, full time job, to replace that income and then some more, using the internet. There's one particular point you should take away from the podcast. James is earning big bucks because he's leveraging (and his students leverage too) a gap in the marketplace that exists right now and is an opportunity for virtually anyone reading this blog. This is the gap between what we know as online marketers, and what mainstream, offline business don't know. You can fill this gap, and earn a solid living too, in your area. If you want clarification of what I am talking about, listen to what James says in the interview. I'm sure you will find his story inspiring and very applicable to you as well. After you do that, go visit his blog and learn more about how James does what he does and how you can benefit from what he teaches - Internet Marketing Speed Here's the download link for the call - Mp3 Download [ Download MP3 | iTunes | Soundcloud ] Yaro Starak: Blogger | Podcaster | Living The Laptop Lifestyle no 49:36

Today she is a professional speaker focusing specifically on how to sell from the stage. Joanna makes incredible money, to the tune of a seven figure business, by speaking around the world, however that's not what this interview is about. In late 2009 Joanna and her husband Greg were at an Internet marketing event I attended and we got talking about selling info products online. Joanna wanted to create a new income stream from the web, selling information products like continuity programs and home study courses, based on the materials they already had. While Joanna loves what she does on stage, having a stable online income source to match her profits from speaking is an important goal, so she's not dependent on being somewhere presenting live to make money. I gave Joanna and Greg access to my Membership Site Masterplan report and the Membership Site Mastermind course and they went away and immediately took action. The end result was a small trial launch of an info product to their existing list of just 1500 people, generating more than $60,000 in sales in a couple of weeks - not bad for such a tiny list and no affiliates. In this interview I asked Joanna to break down exactly what she did to launch her product and get such a tremendous return on such a small starting point. If you're interested in learning more about Joanna and selling from the stage, make sure you visit shiftspeakertraining.com/blueprint to download her free report, and also check out her personal blog, JoannaMartin.com.au Here's the download link again for the call - Mp3 Download [ Download MP3 | iTunes | Soundcloud ] And here's a reminder that Membership Site Mastermind is open too - How To Launch Your Info Product Online Membership Site Mastermind Training Program My coaching program on how to launch your own information product online is open again for a new intake of students. John Jonas and I spent several months trying to connect to get this interview done, but it was worth the wait. I was referred to him via Adam Short from Niche Profit Classroom as a guy who has a unique insight into a particular type of outsourcing online - in this case, hiring people specifically from the Philippines. Why the Philippines? Well there are many reasons, most of which John outlines in this interview, and by the end of it I'm sure you will be rushing to look into this method yourself. This is a really, really good podcast interview. It's one of those discussions where the person being interviewed is willing to share the exact steps used to get something done. If you have ever considered doing any outsourcing online to help grow your business, listen to this call. Outsourcing Is Not Always Easy I've been telling people to "outsource" for many years, and unfortunately a lot of people come back to me with stories about how difficult it is to find quality contractors. Common wisdom with outsourcing is that you go to a site like elance.com, guru.com or rentacoder.com, submit a job and then attempt to find the best person to get the project done. This can work, but it's hit and miss and in most cases you have to go through some "bad" experiences before you get to the good people. John Jonas has a different system, one that focuses on hiring people full time at very affordable rates, and then establishing a long term relationship that's more like an outsourced employee than a odd job contractor, who only works with you when you have a project on. When I say a relationship with his outsourcers, John well and truly trusts his people. He's willing to give them access to his hosting accounts and even his Paypal account. There's a lot of trust required to be that comfortable letting other people, especially people in another country far away, have control over pretty much everything in your business. If you're curious how John can do this, listen to the interview and you will find out how. Show Notes How John started off and was able to quit his job thanks to online marketing How he first found out about outsourcing to the Philippines Why John stopped using elance type sites and instead started hiring full time John explains an entire case study of how he had his outsourcers set up an entire income stream that they manage without him Why John is able to trust his outsourcers with every aspect of his business What website options are available for outsourcing to the Philippines John takes us through an example of how to locate a Philippino worker using the website he uses to find good people We discuss the ethical concerns of hiring a full time worker for as little as $200 a month What John teaches in his ReplaceMyself.com website Want To Outsource To The Philippines? If you're interested in doing what John does, and getting access to more training materials and his system you can use to train your outsourcers once you hire them, check out John's site, ReplaceMyself.com. John spends much of his time helping to outsource the way he does because he enjoys it, and since so much of his business is outsourced already, he has the time to do so. The answer is no, I don't. All my websites focus on the same niche, and while in the past I spent some time buying and selling websites in different niches,   I've been asked many times whether I own other websites in various niches, all making money. The answer is no, I don't. All my websites focus on the same niche, and while in the past I spent some time buying and selling websites in different niches, now I focus on maintaining authority in one marketplace. Today I'm giving you part one of an interview with a man who does the opposite of me. His specialty is creating profitable websites in various niches. In fact, he owns 90 different websites all making money. His name is Adam Short, and in this call you will hear Adam explain exactly how he can build sites and make money from them despite targeting so many different topics. [ Download MP3 Part1 | iTunes | Soundcloud ] Download Part 2 here - [ Download MP3 Part2 ] This Is Powerful Information I had to break this call down into two parts because Adam and I ended up speaking for an hour and twenty minutes. Adam really spilled the beans about everything he does, including how he chooses a niche (it's ridiculously simple), how he generates a list of keywords to target, how he gets content created, how he drives traffic and then turns that traffic into money using automated email marketing. Although Adam is not unique in what he does - there are plenty of niche marketers out there - his system is by far one of the simplest I've found and he was particularly good at explaining it on this call. He doesn't hold anything back during the interview, there are no secrets, and you will even learn what are some of the specific niches and websites he uses to make money currently. If you're the kind of person who doesn't feel capable of establishing dominance in one market and you're looking for a system of making money with websites in topic areas that you are not necessarily interested in, this could be the answer. After listening to the interview you will definitely have an idea of how it's done. Show Notes Adam introduces himself and how he got into niche websites We learn Adam's very simple system for choosing a niche topic What keyword research you should do to check whether a niche is viable as a profit source Adam explains his traffic/keyword system for finding the high traffic/low competition keyword phrases How Adam gets content created for his sites In part two of the call you will hear the rest of the process, including how Adam builds traffic, turns that traffic into money by selling products and advertising, and how he uses email autoresponders to increase the income returned. His entire system is "templated", which makes it very easy to replicate, so make sure you download and listen to part 2 to complete the full picture. Want More Information and Support? If you enjoyed the way Adam explained his system and would like additional support and training to start building your own niche sites, Adam and his partner Alen have put together some free videos you can download if you are willing to give them your name and email. www.nicheprofitclassroom.com Part 1 Mp3 Download [ Download MP3 | iTunes | Soundcloud ] Yaro Starak: Blogger | Podcaster | Living The Laptop Lifestyle no 46:46

Click Here For Instant Access To More FREE Stuff From Maria Andros Gideon Shalwick interviewed the video marketing queen, Maria Andros, in this fantastic podcast. Let's state the obvious - social media is HOT right now and as marketers we are looking for ways to leverage these communication tools to further our business growth. Maria Andros was clever enough to see the opportunity early and cemented herself as a leader in the field of social media marketing. Maria has taught thousands of people how to better leverage websites like YouTube, Twitter and Facebook for traffic, but not just traffic - for money as well. It's easy to see the potential in these sites to tap into large audiences, but do you know to convert those people into customers and members for your products and services? Maria can help you understand exactly how to do this. Listen to this interview with Maria Andros and you will learn - How Maria got her start online (she worked for ten years in a completely different field before moving online) What are the top three social media services based on traffic growth How you can use your videos to get on the first page of Google search results How Maria begins her videos to capture attention with just one sentence What are "Long Tail" keywords, and how do they relate to getting traffic How can your Twitter bio help you get more followers Maria's top twitter tips for building a huge following How Maria integrates Facebook into her marketing system Maria works very hard to give away lots of great free training materials as a means to introduce herself to people by giving first, a philosophy I wholeheartedly endorse. One of the things that really stand out for me about Maria, is her focus on mindset and attitude. She's extremely positive and motivated about getting results for other people, because she knows that will help her to achieve her goals. After listening to the video, if what Maria talks about resonates with you, you can opt-in here for some more free videos from her - http://socialmediatrafficblueprint.com/ A big thanks to Gideon as well for arranging and conducting this interview. I looked forward to doing this interview for a couple of reasons. First I wanted to connect with Jeremy directly, as I had not personally ever spoken to him but obviously knew about his blog for a long time, and secondly to hear the crazy stories from Jeremy's previous business experiences. [ Download MP3 | iTunes | Soundcloud ] Whether by divine chance, or orchestrated intention, Jeremy has enjoyed some tremendous success online. He has followed his passions and turned them into money making web properties, including a site dedicated to cell phone image and ringtones, an online advertising network based on eBay which he sold within four months of starting, and of course, one of the most popular blogs in the make money online space. This podcast is an interview, but it's really a story. Jeremy takes us from day one of his Internet career, all the way up to the present. He includes the background story behind the projects that haven't gone so well and all the inside details and emotions involved during the entire "ride" of every successful business. It's a great story, and I'm sure you will find it inspiring just as much as you enjoy the unique insights into why Jeremy has been able to make so much money online. Show Notes Jeremy begins with a look at his early history where he managed to get through school with the help of his mom We discover how Jeremy started his first big successful website based on mobile phone backgrounds and ringtones How Jeremy's ringtone site NextPimp.com became a serious AdSense earner including the story behind the $130,000 AdSense check We learn about the birth of the Shoemoney.com blog Jeremy talks about his experience starting and then selling AuctionAds, what he calls the wildest four months of his life After a successful exit from AuctionAds, flush with capital, Jeremy moves on to his next project, Shoemoney Tools We talk about Jeremy's live event, the Elite Retreat Jeremy ends the interview with advice for people just starting out in the Internet business game [ Download MP3 | iTunes | Soundcloud ] Yaro Starak: Blogger | Podcaster | Living The Laptop Lifestyle no 1:17:23

I can't remember how I found Perry, but he was one of the very early influences on my work online, in particular his email newsletter style. [ Download MP3 | iTunes | Soundcloud ] In this interview you will hear Perry explain how he became an Internet marketing expert, his thoughts on affiliate marketing, why content is so important to success online, why Perry says no to most joint venture requests and lots more wisdom about direct marketing online. Perry Was The First Marketer I Gave My Money To Perry's Renaissance Club membership was the first internet marketing information product I ever purchased. Many of the lessons I learned from that package stimulated some of the very early and most successful pillar articles I have ever written, including my two part series on search engine optimization, which was partially inspired by lessons learned from Brad Fallon on the CDs I got from Perry. I then went on and promoted Perry's Definitive Guide To Google AdWords as the very first affiliate product I marketed on this blog, way back in 2005. Although that first affiliate promotion didn't do so well, a few months later I promoted an event Perry was running which was offering a 50% commission on a $1500 sale, and I managed to make two sales netting my first ever four figure affiliate income payday. That was a momentous achievement for me and enough encouragement to continue down the affiliate marketing path, leading to where I am today. What I like about Perry is that he rarely does any affiliate promotions and most of his emails are 99% content with a link to one of his products, if any promotion at all. This style of very soft selling, content-driven email marketing was a heavy influence on my own style of email marketing and I recommend you join Perry's email course just to see how he promotes his products and delivers value through email. New To Perry Marshall? I recommend you grab Perry Marshall's Renaissance Club starter pack if you want a good introduction to Internet marketing. It's still one of the most solid starting points I know of if you are new to the Internet and want quality information - especially Perry's guide to Google AdWords, which comes with the Renaissance Club membership. Show Notes Perry explains how he entered the Internet marketing industry How Perry landed his first speaking gig at an Internet marketing seminar Why Perry was able to convince so many affiliates to promote his products Perry's two key elements of an effective online sales process Why Perry doesn't participate in big product launches What Perry considers the two most important variables to track in your online business Why email list segmentation is so important to maintain list integrity How learning in slow chunks is the key to success Why content is critical if you want to become an online expert [ Download MP3 | iTunes | Soundcloud ] Yaro Starak: Blogger | Podcaster | Living The Laptop Lifestyle no 57:02

I love Adam's system because it's simple and I also find Adam, as a teacher, easy to learn from. Robb is a member of Blog Mastermind and also runs a personal blog at RobbSutton.com. He came to my attention after he revealed how he was able to score over $10,000 worth of free biking products for review on his blog. His blog is growing well and while I tend to focus on the direct monetization aspect of blogging, there's a perk that isn't talked about too much when it comes to blogging - how much free stuff you can get - and Robb is definitely enjoying this benefit. It's usually easier to get free products for review from companies rather than convince them to spend money sponsoring your blog, so this is an especially good tactic to get a reward for your hard work when your blog isn't super big yet. Assuming the companies can see the benefit that your blog can potentially deliver, working a proactive approach to secure free goods is a good strategy, and certainly something Robb has done extremely well. Robb's also become an excellent review writer, which as you will hear in this interview is a powerful technique for affiliate marketing on blogs, something I've been doing for a long time and making very good money with. It was about time that I invited her on to my podcast for an interview. In this call you will hear Caroline recount her history online, and she's been in the game for a long time, even doing pay per click marketing back when Overture was the main player and AdWords didn't exist! You will also hear a lot about Caroline's techniques for building traffic to her blog, how she built up her audience (currently 5000+ subscribers) and how she's managed to make at least $1,000 every month (as high as $3,000 some months). The Bloggers Bible The Bloggers Bible is Caroline's latest project, a new book that teaches her methodology for building a successful blog and then generating an income from it. You might wonder why bother getting Caroline's book if you already follow my training on blogging? There's a simple answer to that - she's different. We share many of the same philosophies and Caroline is a Blog Mastermind graduate, but as you will hear in the interview, she doesn't agree with everything I teach and has her own system, so if you like what she says in the interview, definitely grab her book while the discount is available. Leigh's interview was extremely popular as she explained how she went from making $20 to $4,500 a month with her online business. Today I interview Leslie, who made almost $32,000 in 2008 working part time online (he's a full time teacher, and we all know how hard teachers have to work!), and has an interesting story to tell because of the unique way he makes money. How To Make Money Giving Away Freebies Leslie's market is freebie offers and rather than explain how it works here, you should listen the podcast. How exactly freebie trading works and how Leslie made $70 in his first DAY doing it How Leslie experimented with different methods to make money online and eventually found something that worked Why Leslie decided to start a blog and join Blog Mastermind What were the biggest lessons for Leslie as he grew his business Why Leslie wants to position himself as an authority in his industry Leslie is not only a Blog Mastermind student, but he's taking part in every single coaching program I have on the market as I type this. What I love about this is every week I see more evidence of how much effort Leslie is putting into his business and how much output he creates every day, DESPITE having to work a full time job. Leslie is proof that, with discipline and enthusiasm, you can juggle your salary job as you need it to pay the bills, while you build up your online income. I expect in Leslie's case that sometime this year (2009) he may say good bye to his job as his online income grows. Timothy Sykes, as you will hear in this interview I did with him, is an excitable guy and he's making a lot of money online (his most recent report was $100,000 a month!). His skill is stock trading, in particular short selling penny stocks. Not only does Tim make money from stock trading, he makes even more by providing training and tips to others so they can also profit from penny stocks. His blog and email newsletter are the marketing tools he uses to sell his stock trading tips premium membership, which accounts for the biggest chunk of his monthly earnings. This is a great case study example of Conversion Blogging (blog + email list business model), where Tim is able to leverage his passion and built-up years of experience and translate that into a huge income stream just using some fairly straight forward online communication tools. In this interview you will hear Tim talk about how he made his first million dollars, then how he lost a big chunk of it, how his blog started and how he structured his current online business that generates six figures per month. You will also hear some strong opinions and a few segues as Tim and I take the discussion across a range of Internet related topics. If you want to be inspired and hear exactly how someone uses a blog to make a lot of money, this is a must-listen interview. Enjoy! [ Transcript | iTunes | Soundcloud ] A Simple Change To Leigh's Blogging Made A Big Difference Leigh runs a blog called The Fat Loss Troubleshooter, and also joined Blog Mastermind during July 2008. Since then her blog has enjoyed huge growth, getting as many as 5,000 unique visitors per day AND - here's the really good news - she's making about $4,500 a month now. This is one of the screenshots she posted into the Blog Mastermind members forum showing her biggest income source - her Clickbank account. As you can see she's doing between $500 and $1,000 a week from Clickbank sales. When I hear success stories like this from my students I have to find out what they are doing right and learn what techniques are working for them. I asked Leigh to join me on a case study interview call to find out how she is getting such amazing results so quickly with her blog. In this interview you will learn... The change she made to her blogging style that made the big difference How she is now able to learn what her audience wants, rather than guessing what she thinks they want, which means more sales for her The techniques Leigh implemented to build her audience, in particular how she uses interviews to drive traffic to her blog What exactly Leigh sells to make money from her blog Her opinion of how a coaching program like Blog Mastermind can change your blogging and present a clear path to success Leigh's plans for world domination Here's the download link again for the MP3 - [ Download MP3 |  iTunes | Soundcloud ] What I found particularly powerful about this interview was the way Leigh explained how her content writing changed. The formula for a successful blog goes good content = more traffic = more money, so you can see how changes to Leigh's content style made such a difference to how much money she now makes. Do You Want To Profit From A Blog Too? Leigh's story shows that if you combine hard work, a passion for a topic and you follow a step-by-step process, you can succeed at blogging. If you want to see what system Leigh implemented, consider taking part in my coaching program. You can sign-up here - http://www.blogmastermind.com/coaching/ Success Is Not Guaranteed, But People Do Get Results I'm never going to tell you blogging for money is easy. Every person I speak to who's ever made good money from blogging talks about how much work they do, especially during the early days, however they also look at the work in a different angle - it's fun. When a passion is driving your work and you see results coming in, all you want to do is work some more. Positive reinforcement fuels passion and passion fuels work. At the time we did this recording Mitch had been in the program for about two months and as you will hear, was up to lesson nine, so still very fresh to the course and growing his blog. [ Download MP3 | Transcript | iTunes | Soundcloud ] The reason I invited Mitch to do this interview is because he showed himself to be a standout performer and achieved above average results in a short period of time. After two months his traffic was already hitting 3,000+ unique visitors per day and I wanted to know how he did it. Mitch came to my attention because he was clearly an action taker. He asked many questions in the private forums as soon as the program started and is always one of the first to ask a question during the live question and answer sessions teleconferences with me. In this interview we find out... What Mitch does different from most people new to blogging How he was able to drive so much traffic so quickly How Mitch comes up with content ideas and is never short of something to write about Why I'm glad Mitch is not good with technology and how that helps him become a better blogger Why he loves the Blog Mastermind program A specific example of a technique Mitch used to drive a lot of traffic quickly What I consider the key to Mitch's early success This interview should serve as serious inspiration for anyone new to blogging. I expect within the next year or two Mitch could very well be a six figure blogger and this interview explains the foundation he's building to get himself there. Interestingly enough though, Mitch states he never intended to make money from blogging, which is part of why he has been successful so far (passion before profits). Ready To Be Coached? Willie Crawford has been in the Internet marketing game for a long time, yet he still managed to have an entire career in the air force before becoming a devoted online marketer. Willie and I recorded this interview on Skype and I wanted to learn more about his history online, since he is widely regarded as one of the earlier "gurus". I was also curious about what Willie's first foray into online business was, as most people don't start out selling how to make money products. Willie is no different - his first big success was a recipes email newsletter and a cook book he sold (a six figure business), which began after he started sharing recipes from his family farm. From there Willie went on to become a seminar speaker, created a continuity income stream by private labeling the 1ShoppingCart system (his is called ProfitAutomation.com) and today runs a community of people who service all kinds of markets in his Internet Marketing Inner Circle. Willie ends the interview with two powerful tips - how any person can start a business today providing basic Internet marketing services and training to local offline small businesses, and how to leverage forums to find opportunities. Show Notes Willie's early life living on a family farm and then joining the air force His first Internet business project - a dating affiliate program Willie learns about niche marketing by reading email newsletters while flying in the air force Family food leads to Willie's first successful email list and product - a cook book The next step - Willie becomes a speaker at Internet marketing seminars Willie reveals the secret to success - good copywriting Taking the next step, Willie decides to create his own residual income product How to become an expert - run your own seminars like Willie How the Warrior Forum led to a business opportunity Today Willie focuses on offline businesses and helps them market online Why do some people succeed online and others fail Willie's current community - The Internet Marketing Inner Circle How to leverage forums to find business opportunities [ Download MP3 | iTunes | Soundcloud ] Yaro Starak: Blogger | Podcaster | Living The Laptop Lifestyle no 31:05

Live on the Radio in California Last week I got an email from MZ, a DJ and radio owner who had a last minute drop-out guest for a show he was doing on his independent radio station. He asked if I could come on the show and talk about making money from blogs and if possible, could I do it the next day. I managed to free up some time but I didn't realize he wanted me for a full two hours! I've done a little mainstream media before, but not for that long. I had another appointment so I only made the show with MZ for three quarters of the time, which was a fun and unique experience. I got to mention my website addresses several times, which I hope will introduce a few new Californians to the world of blogging. If you listened to the radio show and you came to this blog from there, you might want to start your introduction to the world of blogging by visiting http://www.BecomeABlogger.com, where you can get free training videos on how to start your own blog. During the show the topics moved all over the place and we had some call-ins from people listening who had questions. MZ knows his Internet (he's a self proclaimed geek), so this show was not like your typical mainstream interpretation of blogging, which can be very boring and basic - we actually covered some interesting things, though it definitely was aimed at beginners. Note that I'm on the show for the first 75 minutes, after that MZ has to wing it without me. Thanks MZ for having me on your show and I hope everyone enjoys the audio. [ Transcript | iTunes | Soundcloud ] My friend's name is Alborz Fallah and he was one of my very first students and certainly is the most successful. His blog, CarAdvice.com.au is one of the top blogs in all of Australia in any category and competes right along with some of the biggest media companies in the world for the car enthusiast market in the land down under. His blog gets phenomenal traffic, brings in hundreds of thousands of dollars in advertising revenue each year and Alborz has traveled to Europe to drive some of the most prestigious sports cars ever created. His blog became a true business and Alborz has to be one of the luckiest people in the world, living out a passion every single day and earning big money along the way. What's really great about this story though, is that Alborz started out just like you and me. He wasn't sure what topic to write about, so he created three blogs at once to see which one would stick. The car blog got the traffic so he dropped the other two and slowly built up his site off the back of his own content. I convinced Alborz to test AdSense on his blog after much pestering and he immediately made around $10 per day. Over the next few months his income grew, AdSense reached about $100 a day and he started branching out and testing other forms of advertising. I don't know how much his blog generates today, but 12 months ago it was making $30,000 a month, so I expect the site generates at least half a million dollars a year now. I do know the site was professionally audited (necessary when you take on capital investors) and valued at 5 million dollars! Did I mention during this entire time he was still working a full time job? It wasn't until Alborz sold some of his blog to investors and his blog became a real serious business that he finally left his job to focus 100% on growing his project. Since then Alborz and CarAdvice have gone from strength to strength. He's knocked back a million dollar buy-out (actually I think he knocked back a couple of offers), he's had more people join his team contributing articles and he recently told me about a deal just made with one of the major online media companies to supply car related content to their network in Australia. There's also new branches of the blog opening up in other countries. It's truly become a massive enterprise, which all started as an after-hours experiment to see if he could build a popular blog. There's A Lot To Learn From This Interview The interview is very practical, and if you pay close attention you will learn a lot about the specific techniques Alborz implemented early on to grow his traffic. You will also hear the story of how he brought on investors to back his blog and help grow it to the next level. Here's some of the most important points to take away from the podcast - You can start a blog and choose top level categories in very competitive markets, if you niche it down based on geographical location. In other words, you can start a car blog and target just your country to differentiate it. There's big bucks to be made as the leading blog in just one country for mainstream subjects. When you don't know what topic to blog about, pick what you think might work and just put something out there and see what happens. You can build a significant blog based only on part time labor, if you are dedicated and get things done during the time you have available to work on the project. Sometimes, being controversial can do wonderful things for your traffic. Strong opinions will always stick out and grab attention. Search engine traffic is very powerful if you just do a few things right, like blog post titles in Alborz's case. However, you see, I bought a new macbook pro. Don't get me wrong, I love my new mac, but this is my first mac and since I recorded the podcast on the mac there was a BIG learning curve to figure out how to get it ready for publication on this blog. As you will hear, it's not quite right, but the message is definitely clear enough to enjoy. Apologies for the change in volume and odd shuffling noises. How Do You Measure Social Media? This Third Tuesday meet-up was a good one, the topic being - How do we measure social media? - with three expert panelists (Katie Paine, Marshall Sponder and Marcel Lebrun) taking questions from the audience made up of mostly PR and communications professionals, and related consultants and small business owners. The idea of measuring the impact of social media is akin to measuring the effect of branding. Social media, much like branding, is often difficult to directly correlate with a business outcome, despite it obviously having a big impact on business results. I won't go into here since I do so in some depth in the podcast, so have a listen! If you are a blogger, a business owner or a person interested in the business side of social media, you will enjoy this rambling podcast. Thanks to Joseph Thornley and his crew for putting on a great meet-up. Show Notes Introduction to the Third Tuesday event What we mean when talking about measuring social media What this means for bloggers Why it's the conversation that matters most, not the influencer No industry wide standards for measuring social media are available Not many people are actively measuring, only monitoring There is an opportunity to provide a database of influential sites ranked by social media analysis Use social media to assess how your competition is perceived and use that information to compete Consulting firms providing social media data mining services What changes to ad budget spending at companies means for bloggers Why being an influencer in any niche is so important [ Download MP3 | iTunes | Soundcloud ] Yaro Starak: Blogger | Podcaster | Living The Laptop Lifestyle no 30:00

My list was built off the back of this blog and I have conducted a product launch process a couple of times. In this audio I go through some of the techniques, the mistakes and the successes I have experienced over my three years as a blogger, which led to the eventual successful launch of an information product, which I made over $150,000 from. If you are thinking of doing a product launch online, or a relaunch or closing down sale or any kind of online promotion, and if you want to know my opinion of Product Launch Formula (and let me be frank - I did NOT plan on buying the product at first because I didn't think I needed it), then this is a podcast you have to listen to. You will just have to listen to the audio to find out what it is (okay, here's a clue - the bonus includes a free one of these, the same MP3 player I use - the iRiver S10). I decided if I was going to continue working I would probably be in considerable head pain by the end of the day, so I dropped everything and went to the Brisbane Botanic Gardens at Mt-Cootha and hung out with the birds. I had my iRiver MP3 player with me and was listening to some podcasts, which created a desire to make one of my own impromptu rambling podcasts. My little iRiver has a built-in microphone, so I was itching to see how good it was - and wow, I'm impressed. The audio quality is not bad I'm sure you will agree, though I hope you like the sound of birds in the background :-). The podcast is a short one about a whole range of Internet business topics starting with social marketing, moving on to email lists and then finishing with a little note on keeping perspective. Show Notes Yaro talks about the recent Rich Schefren Attention Doctrine and StomperSMARTS launches A look at how the Internet marketing focus is shifting to social marketing How Yaro is using email lists with his blog to make money Why it is important to focus on intrinsic values and not just money [ Download MP3 | iTunes | Soundcloud ] Yaro Starak: Blogger | Podcaster | Living The Laptop Lifestyle no 19:20

Steve Iser has been online since he was 9 years old. Now he's 21 and makes money using social media sites like MySpace and Facebook as marketing tools to promote products. I called Steve up to do an interview after I finished reading and listening to his Ready.Aim.Wired information product, which teaches how to use social marketing sites to drive leads, build a list and make sales. The book is solid and presents a system that I can actually see working in MySpace because it uses the same language and "model of interaction" as Steve calls it, to establish relationships. Just like with email marketing or any form of online marketing, you have to build relationships in order to get a positive result and if you are using sites like MySpace to do so, then you have to use the same language and community behavior. Ready.Aim.Wired is a great introduction to how to execute this concept based on what Steve has done in the past. In the call I wanted Steve to break things done for us because I still didn't quite understand how his methods work. Steve explained things really well in this interview, so I expect after listening you will have a solid grasp of what it takes to successfully market using social networking sites. There's a lot more to it than just broadcasting messages to as many people as you can - spamming MySpace, not surprisingly, won't work. Here is a breakdown of Steve talked about in the interview. I think you will enjoy the podcast, so make sure you slot in half an hour on your drive to work or when you go walking to have a listen. Show Notes How Steve first made money on the Internet Why Steve entered into social media marketing How to use MySpace as a direct response marketing tool The importance of natural communication in a social networking site Steve's model of interaction for attracting targeted friends (leads) from MySpace Outsourcing your MySpace marketing Facebook as a marketing tool What Steve is currently working on [ Download MP3 | iTunes | Soundcloud ] Yaro Starak: Blogger | Podcaster | Living The Laptop Lifestyle no 37:00
