Will People Pay Money To Learn From You? – Teaching Sells Review

Teaching Sells Logo I was given special access to Brian and Tony Clark’s new membership site Teaching Sells as a joint venture partner to see if I felt the program was worth recommending to you.

Every other blogger in my industry has already written their promotional posts about the program during the first few days when Teaching Sells was released. Although I know my blogging peers all work very hard to offer great content and unbiased opinion when they recommend a product, there is also an element of urgency whenever something new launches. As you probably can guess, in terms of affiliate sales the sooner you promote the more you make because you beat the other affiliates.

I was on holiday during the launch of Teaching Sells so I decided to hold off my post until I could actually look inside and review the content, rather than attempt to rush a post during my holiday purely for the sake of getting in quick for maximum affiliate sales.

I’ve just spent some time going through what’s available to members after joining and here’s what I think of Teaching Sells.

What Does A Blogger Do On His Holiday?

I just spent a four day weekend down the coast at Byron Bay, a well known backpacker holiday location about two hours drive south from my hometown of Brisbane. Byron Bay was once a very hippie-centric town and it still carries some of the vibe from days gone by, but today you are more likely to meet up with an international traveler sporting a European or North American accent fresh from learning how to surf or a skydiving jump.

Yaro By The Beach At ByronI hadn’t been to Byron since I was kid, so I was eager to remember the place and more importantly, test out a remote-working lifestyle and answer the question – can I actually have a holiday, write blog articles and run a membership site all at the same time?

I’ll be honest with you, as much as people proclaim how great the Internet business lifestyle is, taking your work with you anywhere in the world and of course, sitting on the beach with your laptop, it’s not always as easy as the image portrays.

In previous years I’ve had many a mad dash to an Internet cafe to answer customer support emails for BetterEdit while supposedly on holidays and spent nights at my hotel blogging or responding to emails, with people around me complaining about my inability to properly take time off.

My “holidays” involve my work because I enjoy what I do – I don’t require a “break” from it – I want to do it, however it’s not quite perfect yet. I still get a sense of stress when I travel and feel a need to check the Internet just to make sure everything is okay.

I don’t quite have all the systems in place to cover everything I do, however things are different now because I don’t have as many time pressure deadlines as I did in the past when I was the only person in charge of everything. Now I can let things run without me, but I still have to play catchup when I get back, which is something I want to change so I can actually leave the computer for a few days – even a week – without coming back to a day’s worth of email and helpdesk queries.

Byron Is Seriously Wired

Byron Bay is a fantastically well wired little town, in fact there is better wi-fi access in Byron than there is in Brisbane, but that’s not surprising since Brisbane is absolutely terrible for wi-fi Internet access. All of the cafes and restaurants I went to in Byron had free wi-fi access plus we had it in the apartment we rented too, although it wasn’t free.

If all you wanted to do was head to the beach, spend some time writing articles to your blog and enjoy great food, Byron is a fantastic choice. The great thing about just blogging is that it really is just an hour or two a day activity. If your income is driven solely on publishing a one thousand word article every day or two, then you could certainly make a holiday work easily and get work done too.

Some of you might think I’m strange, but here’s a photo of what I enjoy doing on my holidays (and that’s green tea I’m drinking by the way)…

The Video Police

A broad range of players in the Internet video industry, minus Google meet today in order to arrange a set of “collaborative principles” for Internet video. They hope this movement will help Internet video to continue to grow, while also protecting copyrighted material.

Headlining the group were CBS, NBC, Fox, Myspace, Disney, and Microsoft.

This conference is being planned because of the increased demand of companies to respect their copyrighted material. Viacom, as you may have known has a pending lawsuit against Internet video superstar YouTube, and this is no doubt, one of the major reasons of this United Nations-like gathering.

A recent study (read offline) shows that almost 35% of software (including operating systems) is pirated. This is just a flash in the pan when you start considering illegal mp3 downloads, which make up almost 65% of all music downloads.

I have no clue what these media giants think they are going to do to stop pirating, but I applaud them for trying. It’s become clear that Internet piracy will get worse before it gets better.

Skype To Offer Cell Service

Skype is expected to announce a deal in the next couple of days that it will be partnering with wireless service provider 3 to sell the Internet telephone companies first wireless phone.

SkypeIt’s not hard to see that eventually Voip will take over for all land based phones, but could this announcement launch them into the ever competitive cell market? I think so. Within the next few years I wouldn’t be surprised to see Voip cell phones start to creep into the mainstream cellular market. It’s cheaper technology (no need to rebuild current networks), and it’s a great way to share information much faster than what is available now.

But can Voip actually compete with the “market monsters” in the USA – AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon? Only time will tell, but in this world of ever-changing technology you either have to do it first, or do it best. I believe that Skype might just be able to do it best.

Sydney Morning Herald Covers PageRank Controversy

I had a chat this morning to Asher, a journalist from the Tech section of the Sydney Morning Herald newspaper. He was writing an article about the recent turmoil caused by the PageRank update and was looking for feedback from those affected in Australia. He also had a chat to Darren Rowse to grab his take on the situation.

The article just went live and you can read it here – Google algorithm tweak spooks WWW.
