Skype is expected to announce a deal in the next couple of days that it will be partnering with wireless service provider 3 to sell the Internet telephone companies first wireless phone.
It’s not hard to see that eventually Voip will take over for all land based phones, but could this announcement launch them into the ever competitive cell market? I think so. Within the next few years I wouldn’t be surprised to see Voip cell phones start to creep into the mainstream cellular market. It’s cheaper technology (no need to rebuild current networks), and it’s a great way to share information much faster than what is available now.
But can Voip actually compete with the “market monsters” in the USA - AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon? Only time will tell, but in this world of ever-changing technology you either have to do it first, or do it best. I believe that Skype might just be able to do it best.
